for my "Granny"

    for my "Granny"

As you are offering up your prayers and well-wishes today, please spare a thought for my Granny.

She is 96 yrs old and her 99 yr old husband (Granpa) was just recently moved into a nursing home so they don't live together anymore, after 70 years of marriage.  She has been suffering from Osteoperosis.  She was a very tall (almost 6';) regal lady in her time and now she is very bent.  The last few days she has been in increasing agony as two vertabra in her lower back have broken down.  She spent 4.5 hours sitting in the ER waiting room yesterday, begging to die.  She has been admitted and medicated now so she is more comfortable.

I just pray that she is comfortable and is able to be free of pain soon, even if that should cause the rest of us grief.  I also pray that my Dad, who is facing the loss of his parents at the age of 69, can also find peace in letting them go.

Oh dear. I will send warm, sunny Floridian thoughts her way, and for your family too.

Absolutely -- after so many years together, having to be alone would be horrible.

I will be praying for your Granny.  You and your family will be in my thoughts.

I'm thinking of all your family at this time, and sincerely hoping that both your grandparents remain comfortable and at peace.

I'm just now seeing your thread about your Granny.  I'm sending her, your Grandfather and your whole family good vibes at this very difficult time.  Your Dad must be heartbroken.  We know a man who lost his parents last summer about 10 days apart - they were well into their 80's and had been married over 60 years.  They had been doing fairly well, despite some health problems, until the woman was hospitalized for an extended period.  When it appeared she wouldn't recover, the man began to shutdown, too.   When she died, he told one of his kids, "Well, it's time I go, too."  And he did.  It's understandable that people just can't conceive going on without their partner by their side after such an incredibly long time together.  I hope everyone finds strength each day to face whatever is ahead.  Your Grandparents sound like a wonderfully inspiring couple.

I agree...wonderful and inspiring couple...after 70 years of marriage and considering their ages...Wow!  My thoughts and prayers go to you and your family.
