Lori -- every time I've seen the heading I've been lifting her up and you as well.

You can tell her I said every single day you guys have is precious and wonderful.  To this day -- and it was 17 years ago I lost my Gram -- I *still* think "Oh wow, I should call Gram and tell her about THAT!!"

(Except now I I have to tip my head up and ask an angel to go take her the message since Ma Bell doesn't 'ring' that far -- up to Heaven).

There's just absolutely nothing like a 'Gram'.  (and yeah, I mean as opposed to anything else you can 'call' them).  Someday tell her all the things that always make you think of her NOW.  I always did with my Grandmother (imagine that .. ME??  Verbose?  Verbal?  Talking a lot?  Gee, ya think??? *wink*)

My Gram is the one who always used to say that there is not anything in the world that a cup of Constant Comment tea in a nice china cup can't help make a bit more manageable.  (treating yourself to a NICE CUP is sometimes a big deal and a real spirit-lifter -- she was absolutely right).

In fact, tell your Gram that if she's available I might just adopt her as well?  She sounds like an awesome person.

Seriously tho -- would your Gram like a card shower?  If you were to email a few of us her new address and then tell the facility, I bet they'd let us just send her cards to "Lori's Gram" and no names would have to be divulged -- but it might be fun for her to get cards from all over the place with a zillion postmarks on them -- would that be fun for her??

That might make some people nervous, but my Gram would have been the one to organize it for someone else.  (Yeah, I *am* a lot like her in that way *grin*)

    Callie--I'll ask her, thanks!

My last job one of the women I worked with was a little older, in her sixties.  Anyway, any time she would mention her grandchildren I would tell her a story of my own about my grandmother.

At one point during my time at that job Gram had some issues and was sick for awhile.  And, that lady sent her a card.  She was so surprised by that and called where I work to thank her.  And, they ended up talking for about 20 minutes.  And, they had never met.

She was a waitress so you can't go anywhere without her running into someone she knows.

She's just a great non judgemental person.  Never had a bad word to say about anyone.  I really admire that about her.  I'm easily aggravated by people and she's nothing like that.

In the hospital there was a lady who was really out of it next to her.  And, this lady would yell out and call constantly, nothing made sense, you know, just dementia type yellings.  And, my mom asked Gram if she was bothering her, if she wanted to be moved to another room.  And, Gram said, "oh, no, she's not bothering me."  I couldn't believe it.   I would of put a pillow over the ladies head a day ago, LOL!  But, that's what she's like.

Lori, I have been keeping your Gram in my prayers. I hope she is safe and happy back at home now.

Thank you!  She actually is back home now and feeling pretty good.  When I called her today my brother and his fiance were visiting with their dog, a Scottie too, named Cosmo.  She said she was going to eat and go down to play cards.

She's still having some side effects from antibiotics that she's taking for an infection but it's something she's going to need for life.  So, she's going to have to just deal with the side effects unfortunately.

    THANKS!

Lori, I'm glad to hear this update on your Gram.  It sounds like she's doing quite well.  I wonder if some of the things I've read here about supporting a dog's system while he's on antibiotics would apply at all to a person dealing with the side-effects?  Are they gastro-intestinal side-effects?  Maybe there are supplements or something she could try to alleviate some of them.  I know people like Callie have lots of info on that type of thing for dogs, but who knows if the same apply to people!  I do remember being told to eat plenty of yogurt while on antibiotics for chronic tonsillitis when I was much younger - it helped with yeast infections.

At any rate, it's good to hear that she's back in familiar surroundings and feeling well enough to play cards!  Off topic -- I learned to play "Hearts" last week with some former neighbors, and we've decided to make it a once-a-month plan to rotate houses for dinner and cards.  I've got a lot to learn, but it was fun!

Thanks!  Yup, she's home and causing a commotion with her siblings, what sister's not speaking to who, blah, blah, blah. . .I swear they regress as they age.  [:)]
