I could use a prayer and some healing thoughts -- Update

    • Gold Top Dog
Glad to see this update - I'd seen you post on another thread just today and was going to ask for news!  Great to hear you were covered for the damage and are happy with all the replacements!

And wonderful to hear how well Ellie is doing!

    Happy New year to you!

Nancy, just read thru this thread and am so glad to see the update -- yay for Ellie!  I hope she continues to improve with her new hip.  What a relief to have her coming around to her old self once again!  I'm so sorry to hear about your FIL and will keep you and your family in my prayers....

As for your flooding, I had the VERY SAME THING happen!  Only my washer is in the garage... it flooded the garage, bathroom and into the hallway - big ole mess!!  Our garage has flooded twice (once with the washer, the other was caused by a lot of rain coming thru a small hole in the wall for the water pump).  I told hubby, must be God's way of telling us to clean out the garage!

May the upcoming year be a blessed one for you and your family!

Nancy, I'm sure you're feeling much less stressed now that the flooded flooring issue is behind you.  Yes, it is hard to see a gorgeous new carpet (or new couch, or new bedspread, etc. etc.) and know it won't stay gorgeous for long with pets around.  However, if it's decent quality, it should hold up very well if you have it professionally cleaned once a year.  I guess it's kind of like a new car - once you get that first ding or scratch (or carpet stain), you'll relax a bit and treat it like a regular part of daily life.

I'm so glad to hear Ellie is doing well -- I would absolutely be celebrating the little signs of her old self -- those are the things that really encourage and comfort us!  I can't remember if you've said or not, but will she have access to some water/pool therapy?  I would think that would help her build up some strength and flexibility without too much impact.  Give her a hug and a little massage on her new hip from me!

I think I'll put in a belated Santa picture of her that we took here, at home (of course). She's so darn happy today. She's so darn strong on that leg. All looks well on that leg. It's funny, though, because outside (the house) she moves so incredibly slow but inside she wants to do it all. Because of the training we've done before, I think she thinks she needs to go slow outside but not inside. That's all good, though, as far as I'm concerned. Better safe than sorry, even at 3.5 months post op.

We really are winding down ib her recovery time. She will need to build up some strength in order to leap onto the bed and her beloved (and I mean beloved) loveseat without my worrying over her too much. We do have some hydro therapy here in Boise that she can go to--and depending on what the surgeon says, that may be an option. Overall, though, not many people can tell anything has happened to her, and I'm so pleased with my decision. This surgery has a 97% success rate and it gives her a joint that has 95%+ normal joint function and I'm happy I sacrificed and did it.

    Here she is:

    Wonderful update...
Glad to hear Ellie is doing wonderfully...

Just wanted to post one more time to thank all of you for the positive prayers and thoughts. Everything with this surgery has gone swell and Ellie has a good hip and I'm so happy. I took her to Sun Valley about a month or so ago and held my breath until I saw the X-rays and heard him say, over and over, how perfect her hip is.

Jim's Dad is doing well, too. One of his tumors has all but disappeared and the other one shrunk down to nearly nothing.

I found out, too, that Murphy's non-FHO hip (currently his "bad" hip) is totally out of the socket so his pain has been reduced. (Oh, and he's doing very well with his fear issues, too. He's like a different dog--the behaviorist said he was a GREAT dog who still trusts people and we've been working on his reliability and it's come a long way.)

So, things are rosy for now. Ellie may need her other hip replaced (yes, I'm saving for it), but that's at least a year off, if not more. For now, I couldn't be more happy. I love seeing her jump and run and rip and tear and go up to people to say hello just like always.

Thanks, idoggers, for thinking of us!
