Please pray for Lori's grandma

Gram Update--I went to see her yesterday.  She's doing well.  She's pretty bored.  She's not really feeling sick so aside from having the IV twice a day she's mostly just hanging around.  They gave her an activity schedule so she could play cards and bowl and whatever else they do.  She got lots of cards from her friends and she had gotten quite a few plants.

My brother had just left with his dog, a scottie, so she was pretty happy about seeing him and Cosmo (dog).  My brother also never goes anywhere without his dog.  She asked about Willow like second thing out of her mouth.  And, why didn't I bring her???

Her roomate is nice, recently had surgery but talkative.  The woman is a drama queen though, whining a lot and not wanting to get out of bed much.

The nurse said my grandmother was doing well "sociallly" and he laughed.  That's her!  She met an Italian woman who she can understand so she's been sitting outside with her a lot.  They have a patio type area with tables, etc.  She cannot leave though, new insurance won't allow it.

I told her I'd come for coffee sometime later this week before work.

Anyway, thanks for all the support.  It really is a horrible place to have to be.

Lori,,,I am just now reading this whole thread,,,,about your Gramma! I'm so glad that she is hanging in there and really,,,even being bored is a good sign!    I hope she just continues on!  DHs mom is not in a nursing home,,but an assisted living place....and she is NOT a social person like your Gram is.....but you know, even SHE is making friends.  You know,, its kind of nice that they can make friends like that,,,, I bet their both kind of happy to be where they are.  But may never admit to it!!!!  LOL!

Lori, I was thinking of PMing you to see what the latest news was on your Gram.  I'm glad to hear that she's doing quite well.  To have a few activities and someone to sit and talk to is great.  The social connection is very important to keeping a positive mental attitude, which of course is good for her overall healing.  You didn't mention if she's still complaining about the food (this is so common -- my MIL complains constantly about the food in her retirement facility).  Maybe your Gram and her fellow Italian companion can sneak into the kitchen and drum up some decent dishes!  It sounds like a progressive place if they allow the dogs to be visitors, too.  They brighten up the environment in such places a lot.

Sounds like things are going as well as possible - thanks for the update!

Thank you to all!  Tracy--I think if they could they would sneak into the kitchen.  Luckily, the staff seem pretty nice and take all the complaining and whining in stride, even make jokes abou it.  They are amazing people, I couldn't even stand being in there for an hour.

Gram Update---My uncle took her to the doctor today.  The x-ray showed the infection is GONE!!  She will need to finish the last few more days of IV antibiotics at the nursing home.  Then they will make sure her blood sugar is regulated and she will be able to come HOME!!  At this time, no need for surgery.

October 1st she will be 81 so we are all very excited that she will be healthy!!

Thank you very much to all who sent thoughts and prayers and PM's to me.

Lori, I was just thinking that you hadn't posted an update on your Gram in a while.  I'm so glad to hear that she's beaten the infection and that she'll be heading home soon.  What a birthday present for her!  You'll have to throw a big party (with as many of her favorite homemade foods as possible)!!  (Edited to add that these foods should be in keeping with doctors orders, but at least she can enjoy something other than institutional foods [;)])

Lor, I am so happy to hear about you grandma. I will light a candle and say lots of prayers,  to keep her well this is a very powerful forum ya know?
Anyway, the thing about her blood sugar being all over the place, the minute Joe gets any type of infection his blood sugar does the same thing, took us a long time to make the correlation. So hopefully now that they have the infection under control and the sugar will follow. Hang in there sweetie and let us know.

I just wanted to conclude this thread with a huge THANK YOU for all the prayers.  They WORKED!  Gram is home, no surgery needed and blood sugar pretty stable and they expect it to get better with a little time away from all the medication they had her on.  I spoke to her today and she is happy to be home and in great spirits!!

    THANK YOU!!!
