Prayers for Jessie

• Prayers for Jessie cakana Posted : 12/30/2011 9:09:35 PM I went out to Grace again today and one of the 1st things I always do is to check on my sponsor horse, Jessie. When I was there on Tuesday I saw that she'd injured her rear hock/hoof area. No one seemed to know how but I found out today that she'd panicked and tried to jump the fence. Jessie is blind and her seeing-eye horse and best friend is a old gelding named Bullseye. They were surrendered together several years ago. When she loses contact with Bullseye, she panics and it's gotten worse lately. I was told today that they will likely put her down in the next week or so. Part of me is relieved that she'll be free from fear and pain but I'm so very sad that there are no other options. Other than being blind, she's a healthy, beautiful mare. Please pray for a peaceful passing for her. The speculation is that Bullseye was weak for quite awhile when they first arrived and allowed Jessie to stay close and seemed to watch out for her more. He's getting stronger and healthier now though and seems to wander away from her more often. They were both in a pasture with some other medically-needy horses but Jessie kept getting separated and the other horses were not kind to her. They've been in a small paddock for a few weeks now but even that doesn't seem to be small enough. Watching her today, she seemed intent on keeping within inches of Bullseye. They came to tell me the news and then we went to take pictures with her. Even that was a challenge because she's gotten so skittish.
