Update on the Johnson family - please keep the prayers coming

This is from today's posting. The part about Owen curling his toes around Susie's arm made well up with tears.

    Tuesday, July 26, 2011 10:17 AM, CDT
We were told yesterday that no beds were available yet in Atlanta and not to expect to move until Thursday at the earliest. So we didn't feel too motivated. My sister, Sarah, even took the kids in the pool at the hotel. Brooke got to go in (her cast is waterproof) but Kathryn (who can't put any weight on her legs for a few months) just happily lounged by the water playing on an iPhone. We even let the kids order room service (which I think was the first time ever for the girls.)
This morning, however, we were told at 8am that they were going to move Owen today BEFORE NOON!! Aughhh!! So today will be a busy day of renting cars, packing, cleaning, and driving. And I have been contracting all morning so my mom insisted I put my feet up. So I feel kinda useless while my sisters and mom hustle around. Better than having a baby in the NICU, right? It will be a hectic day but we are all excited to get Owen to Atlanta to start his rehab.
Yesterday, Owen had a bronchoscopy. His lungs appeared to be clear. And his 24 culture came back negative for infection. Thank you God! He was a bit uncomfortable after the sedation wore off. Poor buddy. But a short visit from his sister, Brooke, put a smile on his face.
The girls have made amazing improvements in just a few weeks. Brooke (who has a cast for a broken wrist, and a rod in her thigh from a broken femur) hasn't had to take any pain meds for a few days now! Brave girl! And Kathryn (who had a lacerated liver, a shattered pelvis, a rod in her femur, and has lots of pins and rods in both legs from the knees down) is starting to go from taking pain meds every 4 hours to every 6. Kids are so amazing, aren't they?! I cry for hours about a paper cut.
Last night, Owen started to wake up from his nap, yawn, pull both legs up a few inches and stretch one of his arms. Although we have been told these could just be reflex movements, it was pretty exciting to watch! And a while later I was picking up his legs for a diaper change and he curled his little foot and toes around my arm. It was the closest thing to a hug I have gotten from him since the accident! I immediately burst into tears. I have so much hope and faith for my little boy. And I KNOW he is getting lots of prayers daily. Thank you all for that! Please keep them coming! I know God can make miracles happen and I hope that one day Owen will be a testimony of Gods power. God can move mountains, so I can't wait to see what He can do with arms and legs!

Cathy, that's a boatload of good news! I hope the transition to the rehab center goes smoothly for Own and the whole family. Continued prayers, positive energy and good thoughts for the whole family. ((((hugs))))

You're right . . . I'm not a mother, and yet reading the part about Owen's toes and foot made me well up with tears, too.

I cannot even begin to imagine how she (and the whole family) is staying so strong and functional.  I know they say you do what you have to do, and I'm sure her instinct is to be as strong as her children (including the one yet to be born) need her to be.  But I think I'd be a wreck.  They are definitely an inspirational family, and I hope each day brings more signs of hope for Owen's continued improvement, especially once he's in the new rehab facility.

Some of the Panera Bread's down near Lauderdale are doing some fund-raising -- I'm gonna call ours here and see if I can stir anything up.

That would be awesome Callie. I think one of the fire dept's in Orlando is also doing something. There's a bunch of fundraising going on and if anyone is interested, you can see the efforts on FB if you look for Hannah's Helpers.

What an adorable picture.  My hubby was in a halo for 8 months 13 years ago, but seeing this sweet baby just tugs at my heart.
