I recently fostered Dexter, a lab/pit mix for around four months. He was extremely emaciated, anemic, and flea infested when he was found in a back yard with around five other dogs. After a botched adotion, we decided to adopt him ourselves to keep him safe. Everything was going great until he started urinating all over the house despite being housebroken. At first I thought it was a behavioral problem, but when he started urinating while walking around the house as if he was unaware he was doing it I knew there was more to it. I took him to our vet, and he was placed on an atibiotic. The problem didn't get better, and a second visit was made. They did a CBC and a Urinalasys, and found that he had a UTI. I wasn't that worried, but started to become concerned when I found that on top of the UTI he had a high white blood cell and protein count that she believed could be treated with a longer time on the antibiotics combined with cranberry tabs. However, if this doesn't improve his condition he will have to undergo more costly tests that we will have a hard time paying for. Money is an issue for us, and we don't really have all this extra cash lying around to put toward tests. We are hoping that he doesn't have stones, and even more hoping that he doesn't have kidney or liver diseases or diabetes. He is a Lab/Pit mix, and is the sweetest dog despite his former life. I want him to stay with us for the rest of his life, but if he has a disease that will only make his life painful; we will have to have him put down. So, I really want and hope that this round of antibiotics and the cranberry tabs help him get better.
