Left Gibby out of the crate

Just a quick update.... I left him in the crate today for about 3 hours....to go play 9 holes of golf with DH and my son Ron.. Before yesterday..I would have left him out of the crate I am sure..but because he chewed his bed...I decided NO WAY.   I got him a fresh raw bone...and filled some toys with treats...and of course he was stuck in his crate with out a cushy bed..but he had a fleece afhgan in it.  He didn't chew it,,I was happy. He did go back to his barking I guess because there was spit all over the floor of the crate and in front of the crate on the real floor. I'm just glad because I was afraid he would tear his blanked apart just like he did the bed last night.

At least you could golf and not worry about your house being eaten, LOL!  There's got to be something you can do though that's a happy medium where he's not drooling and anxious being in the crate and you don't have to worry.  What do they do with dogs with separation anxiety and problems like that??

Beats me....but that is what he has always done in his crate. When he was a baby I actually thought he was pee'ing in his crate over night.  But it is part of the reason that I finally gave up on the crate at night time...... I worry about him in the crate being so upset. But yes....I don't have to worry about my house eaten.  I am off today ( ugh... my hours changed at work....I am now off on mondays and have to work Fridays--the one day I asked for when I started there almost 3 years ago ) and we have to go to the bank...and maybe we will go to breakfast....so I think I will leave him out of the crate for the short time we are gone...he was fine all the other times until we left him twice on Friday and both over 3 hours each.

 Just wanted to say congrats Dyan!  Ted just turned two and finally has earned full run of the house at all times with the "big dogs."  Most of my rescues were more trustworthy than him!  He was just slow to mature.

Just last week we starting giving Morrison a trial free reign period when we are out.  He seems to be doing pretty well except for some counter surfing where he didn't get anything.  Yesterday I came home and the fridge magnets had all been taken down, strange dog.

Morrison is now about 18 months old, I never would have tried it before now.

wow......18 months.   Gibby is only 5.....thats a long time to wait!!!

I think I did it at about 7 or 8 months.  It was out of necessity because the enclosure became dangerous to the dog.  It was a no choice decision and luckily it worked out but I did have to hide the throw pillows.

Well believe me....when I get the courage to try this again.....I will puppy proof a little better.

But since he was up on the bed...on all the pillows...I doubt that he is going to forget that one......so I can plan on him sleeping on my bed even though I don't want him to.  He jumped up on a living room chair once or twice too...so he is THAT kind of dog I guess.  LOL!
