How did your dogs do with the fireworks?

My guys were unphased. I'd like to pat myself on the back and take credit for all the thunderphobia work I've done with them, but I think it has more to do with the barometric pressure and changes in the environment with thunderstorms than the noise. They barked a couple times at the sound of the loud ones and even went outside to potty while they were still going on, so, all clear here for future 4ths!  Yes

Apollo is great with fireworks. They don't phase him one bit. He came to the beach with us tonight, sat at the bonfire, and watched em' go off. No problem!

Mine know the difference, even my storm phobic could careless about the bang and scream of fireworks, we shot off cascades, fountains and rockets in the front yard.  They were and are totally cool.  Helps that folks hunt around here year ....

Ours are going off right now. Sasha has gone to stand watch in the hallway. She's not terribly upset, but she is compelled to track every sound in our neighborhood, and fireworls are definitely out of the ordinary. Now she's back at my side, relaxed but keeping her ears perked.

Eko hasn't given any indication that he's noticed the noise. He's sprawled out and snoozing away.

Kenya came along, since she has never cared one wit about thunder, gun fire, or much of anything save for the first few weeks or so when she was skittish.  Since we are in a city we go downtown and there's a HUGE show over the river.  The little kid sitting next to us was throwing down those things that pop and she didn't care.  She was sleeping up until the fireworks started.  For the first couple earth shattering bangs, she sat up and nudged against me but then she pretty much laid down and seemed annoyed.  Afterwards, she was really excited and happy for the long walk back to the car.  Her tongue was hanging out and her tail was wagging.  We all "threw a Kenya party" to reinforce how good she did and now she thinks she's pretty hot stuff!

I'm not sure how Coke would've reacted, he stayed home.  There's some people doing stuff in the streets and he doesn't care, but that's quite different from a 20 minute professional show with tens of thousands of people around.  Plus the bridge that we watch from is 1/2 a block south of the bridge where they shoot them off.  You have to lay back to see them it's so close, pieces of debris fall on you, and sometimes it's so loud your ears buzz.

Gunnar stayed inside in our bedroom. Hektor stayed in his bed. After fireworks were over I let them out and low and behold my son was lighting up one of the fountains (I thought they were all gone) which Hektor promptly attacked with a vengence and I had to run out and stop him. He was oblivious to the sparks and fire coming out of the firwork and was biting at the flames.

I think he will not be attending any firework displays in the future.

omg, dgriego!! my heart would have stopped!!! silly dogs!!!

well, no fireworks here, but mine arent scared... they do get tense and aggitated, but so do i, when it goes on almost 24/7 for 3 weeks straight during chinese new year. this year they ended up in a fight, because they were so tense, and idiot me tried to seperate them by putting my arm in between then (duh!) and got bit by moca.. you shoulda seen her shocked face, when she realized she bit me, instead of jason!!! lol. the BF was so mad at her, but it really wasnt her fault at all...

I think it did as my reaction was to place myself between Hektor and the firework while yelling NO Leave It at the top of my lungs. I can say that the fireworks they make now adays are very safe as I was inches from a burning fountain and neither I nor Hektor (who attacked the flames) were burned and I do not recall even feeling any heat.

My DH was lameting his lack of a video camera as he insists it was hysterical to watch.

    Ditto for Bugsy

We had some friends earlier on and the kids were squealing and ooing and ahing which had him excited but just his normal I love kids excited, so he drug out his 'stick' ( more a tree limb) and laid in the grass chewing away.

He has never responded to loud noise, posted last week about how he was out at 10:30 pm wandering our yard like normal during a terrific storm.

He does show a large interest in helicopters - I think he believes they are either birds or bugs and he wants to catch them Stick out tongue

Tia, who was such a freaked out mess over everything when I first got her, did great. She doesn't enjoy loud noises, but she was calm and fine inside the house.

Nick, the youngster, was interested in watching them with me and was relaxed enough to take a poop with everything going off on the beach just below us.

    No problems.

Molly did great but noises don`t bother her at all. Bella on one the other hand didn`t fair as well. I waited until 11:30 to take the girls out to go potty so they could go to bed. It was all silent outside. Just got off the deck steps and someone lite off a firecracker. Bella headed for the house. So in we went and waited. 12:30 all is silent again so I take Bella out again. Same thing happened. Back in we go. Now what? I put her to bed and slept downstairs so she could wake me up to go potty if she had to go because so far she didn`t have time enough when she was outside to go. Shut the air off and opened up the deck door. Then all (you know what) let loose outside. Fireworks going off like mad. Bella tried to paw her way out of the x-pen she as was really scared. So I shut the door turn on the air again and turn up the TV loud. She settled down after I stuck my foot against the door of the pen. She laid down pressing on the door of the pen to be close to my foot. Poor girl. Yep we were up bright and early this morning to go outside and potty. It was kind of cute this morning as Bella really had to go outside but before she went out the door she turned around and went to Mollys crate as if to say Please come with me. So Molly had to get up even though she wasn`t ready to to go out with Bella. Glad the 4th is over for another year. Hopefully next year for Bella will be better with some training.

Charlie was hiding in a locked room all night. He loaths fireworks of any kind.

Ham had to be put up becasue he tries to 'kill' fireworks. He thinks the sparks are some animal spitting at him or something and feels the need to try and attack them. lol

    Frankie couldn't care less.

Him and Hektor would have a great time at a firework party.

May I ask what happened to Charlie? is the pic in your signature taken in the middle of a shave or is he half shaved half furry?

River was in his crate and uneffected.  Brooke was in our bedroom and cried and carried on at first and then calmed down.  Hailie didn't seem to be effected either she just slept in my daughters bed, she was the furthest away though..   another successful 4th!
