Well its been about two and a half weeks and now they are playing together and don't seem to have any problems with each other.  I do feel bad for my cat only getting half of much attention as she used to though.

well as long as she dosnt start poopin on your pillow her feelings shouldnt be hurt that bad. They arnt as needy as dogs at all and I'm sure she rules the relationship anyhow, no? Slowly but surely works better then not all!

Oh yeah don't worry about the cat, when she wants your attention, she'll take it from you!

There are times when I'm trying to pay attention to the cat and the dog comes up and takes it, and the cat is just looking at me and meowing sometimes cause she wants attention.  I don't know what to do when that happens.  She used to sit with me a lot and now she cant cause the dog is always sitting with me.

there's no reason the dog can't learn to sit and wait her turn for attention [;)]

It took my cats WEEKS to warm up to the addition of a dog.
But it was worth the wait – now they sit around giving each other tongue-baths.

All we did was keep the dog from trying to chase the cats. And tried to give the cats a little extra love when the dog came around to show them everything was OK.

About three and a half weeks now and they play together all the time and sleep next to each other sometimes.  Once the dog even groomed the cat after the cat and laid down next to her.  THAT was great :)  The dog still really annoys the cat sometimes though.

My dog and a cat are still at the same level as they where when I first brought the pup home. Pup: "Let's play". Cat: "Leave me alone. SLAP." It's been a year - still same attitude.

About a week ago, Jack walked over to the cat, got in the play bow position looking all happy. She hissed as usual. He then immediately dropped on the floor with a very sad doggy look, and I heard a loud, long sigh - it was such a human sigh: "Ahhh...". He laid in front of her a few seconds, then he whined. Then he left - "Forget it."

I don't think they will ever be friends. Maybe when they are both old and immobile. I imagine them laying back to back, silently contemplating the whyness of human behavior :)

It's been almost one month and now they are completely fine together, the cat even missed Tasha when she was gone for her spay surgery!  Well the first day she was fine with it hehe, but by the next morning she was meowing around looking for Tasha and seems happy to have her back home again [:D

Maybe I have an odd cat but I don't get why no one will let their dog chase their cats.  That is how Tasha and Kya play together.  They play chase and they also play wrestle.  The cat will tease the dog into chasing her when she feels like playing.  She will come up to Tasha and do that sidways hop in front of her and run a couple steps, turn around to see if Tasha is following and if not, she will do it again until Tasha chases her.  Then she chases Tasha back and then they wrestle.

Your pup is adorable!  Is she a Brussels Griffon?  That face is just precious.

I think some people don't let their dog chase their cat to prevent things from getting out of hand.  I'm sure that some on this board have dogs and cats that chase each other in play, but in some circumstances, that's just too risky.

For a while Cuma and I lived with my Mom and her cat, Secret (RIP).  I adopted Cuma as an adult, and it took him a while to learn to leave Secret alone.  Every once in a while Secret would run through the house which would excite Cuma and he would give chase.  I highly doubt that dog ever would have harmed Secret BUT, since Cuma weighs 100 lbs, it wouldn't take much - a trip and fall on top of the cat for instance - to kill him.

Then there was the time Cuma chased my friends 18 year old cat Tux.  He chased poor Tux up my friend's staircase, we heard an awful yelp, and Cuma came sprinting back down the stairs with a bloody nose. [&:]

EVERYONE who sees her asks if she is a brussels griffon but she is a pug-zu (pug/shih tzu mix).

But what she really looks like is a Brug (brussels griffon/pug mix)

I guess I should stop posting in this thread and start  a new one next time since they get along so well now.
