Dog Walking - out front or behind?

So it's ok to heel a dog for "reminder sessions", but not for a 20 minute walk?

    • Gold Top Dog

If the only exercise a dog is getting is that 20 minute walk, then, yeah, I think that IS wrong.  Not everyone lives in an area where they are able to give their dogs off lead time, so when folks visit that site and think that the absolute ONLY way to walk a dog is on strict heel for 20 mintues, that's worrisome for the dogs mental and physical health.

You think walking a dog beside a human and at the same speed as the human is damaging to physical health?

If that's the case than all that jumping in agility/flyball is damaging to dogs' joints and should be stopped immediately....

    • Gold Top Dog

I think a dog who never ever gets sufficient exercise is being damaged, yes.

The agility my dogs do is just for fun stuff with my makeshift course in the yard.  We don't do flyball either.  However, they DO a lot of running in the woods....maybe that's not so good for them??  I would hate to tell them that though.

Let's face it Glenda....nothing is good for any dog....we should just keep them all locked up....and no harm can come to them.....:)...lol

It's almost six o'clock, I am tired and starving....all I can come up with is .....should one take his'her dogs to Petsmart on a Saturday between the hours of 10 am to 12.....that's all I can come up with....lol

    • Gold Top Dog

Well of course, and I'd do it in a heartbeat, but the aisles aren't wide enough for all of us to walk side by side by......

If you lock them up and don't give them any exercise they don't need food!

    • Gold Top Dog

    VERY good point, Golden!

With one of those fancy - schmansy no-jump harnesses as well, that look like some kind of booby trap, just in case.
