Great topic spiritdogs!
I do believe in body "language" and "communication" to a certain degree. Within Dogs [and even humans] we tend to over dramatize and analyse motions. So I agree and disagree with some of the comments.
A good example is "if a female human plays with their hair during interaction with another being this shows subconcious flirtation & acceptance." Says who?! I play with my hair constantly. I do it as a stress and tension reliever. I also do it when I feel insecure in a certain situation, not confident! So here is my "theory" and "point" to this whole "body language" matter:
Like humans, dogs may vary their body language as well. What one dog does may not mean the same thing another dog does. And as humans can we really say we "know" what means what in dog body communication? We can only "predict" or "assume."
Kayla's Typical Body Language:
Kisses: If asked for, will be given [trick/affection]. When I come home [greeting]. "Cleaning" me (feat, chest, face) [grooming/submission]. Random licking [anxiety/need for something].
Tilting Head Back & Forth: Speaking [word recognition] (i.e. when I say "bone", "treat", "outside", "bath", "brush", "cuddle", etc)
On Back Legs & Flapping Paws: When I come home [excitement/greeting]. Speaking/Playing [frustration with situation].
Laying Across Chest/Arms: When I am on the laptop / sitting on the couch/bed [need for affection/attention]
Shaking Toy in Face/in Front of Me: When we are busy playing/doing something else [toy envy "theory"/showing off]
These are some things off the top of my head. Currently those are my "assumptions" on how she feels. Any input or "suggestions" are welcome! :o)
