Neighbor's dog leg lifted and urinated on a person

Neighbor's dog leg lifted and urinated on a person.  Why would a dog do this and what does it mean?

Did the person deserve it?  [:)]

We had some neighbor dogs that would attempt this on occaision. Unneutered, outside-only, poorly-trained, under-socialized. I think that would pretty much cover it.

LOL, I don't think they deserved it Billy.  Although it could be funny if you could train them to do it if someone ticked you off.

Houndlove, it was an indoor dog but I do not know if he was nuetered or not.  Nor do I know how much socialization this dog has had.

I've been peed on[:)]  The owner handed the dog over to me and before I know it I felt something warm on my leg, this has happened more then once.  Sometimes the dog is just scared or somtimes it was just the way I smelled.  On quick sniff and then a lift of the leg and I am suddenly running to the restroom to change my scrubs. But from what I noticed every dog that has ever peed on me was not very social or also very timid.  Most were outside only dogs who didn't know much about being around humans.  I think if anything the owners of these dogs have been more embarssed then I ever have been.

The dog does not need to know anything about humans or not, if a dog does that is a clear sign that the dog does not have respect for that person in particular

My dog peed on me at the dog park when he was younger.  I figured it was because I was the closest thing to a tree.  With male dogs, it's all about getting the scent up high, not about what is being marked.  I've also had other dogs pee on me at the dog park.  There are no trees at our dog park, so there ya go for my theory.

Perhaps the reason it would seem like it does not have respect for that person is because it has not been trained how to interact with humans.  A well trained dog will never do this.  The dogs that peed on me had never seen me befor and just being in the vet's office made them feel the urge to pee and me, some stanger that smells funny taking them away from their owner.  A dog who interacts with humans on a normal bases will not have these problems.

It's not like in the comedy movies where we see fido pee on some bad person out of spite, it's because that's what the audience wants to see and finds it comical.  The dog is an actor trained to do that.  In real life it's completely different

A dog does not need to be trained to know how interact with humans because then every street dog will be ;peeing on everybody and the person does not need to be bad for the dog have not respect for that person

Like i said, peeing on somebody is just showing no respect for the person, is not that they will decide to pee on you just because you were the closet thing at that moment

I guess I'm just missing something in that, I don't see what's so funny. [&:] It may have just been the way I read it or however I interpeted it.  Oh well...

My dogs pee on each other all the time. It isn't a respect issue, they just don't care. If one is ;peeing and the other gets too close and gets a drizzle, oh well. No harm, no foul. For dogs, pee isn't something awful and insulting. It's just pee.

They don't pee on us because they learn pretty quick, if they're well trained and socialized, that humans feel differently about pee and poop than dogs do.

And street dogs? Where do you live?
    • Gold Top Dog
I'm going to go with the "scientific" theory of marking territory. Maybe the dog thinks he's in charge of certain people and that person is now his property and no other dog's? Maybe?

One thing is to get too close and get a drizzle but another way different is that the dog goes at you and do it on purpose

Our 9 month old cocker peed on my husband just last night! He IS well socialized with humans, adores my husband and is an indoor dog.I think either he stepped in something in the backyard ( 13 dogs, highly likely) and was trying to mark the scent of the other dogs mess,or he is just a happy puppy, with a short attention span and just had to pee.We have 1 tree,1 very well used tree but i think it was "occupied " at the time.BTW i thought it was pretty funny [:D]
If you wotk in a vets office the dogs probably just smell other dogs and are marking you, feel special!!
