Xerxes, I also have a breed that's prone to bloat. I only feed 2 times a day (because I have an on the verge picky eater). Like Mic said, one thing is to raise the food bowls slightly. The other thing is, at least from what I've read, no vigorous activity 30min before or after the meal. Maddi's also not ravinous (max she eats is 3 kibbles at a time) so that also gives me some "worry relief." Also, I don't let her drink a lot (by that I mean sit at the water bowl for more than 2 minutes slurping it up) right after she's eaten.

He's got the raised feeder, has had it since day one.  He also picks at his food.  Somedays his bowl will be emptied, some days it won't.  And like you said his activity level is restricted for at least 30 minutes before and after meal times.  He's not a picky eater in the least, but he prefers to eat when he's hungry. (I think he gets that from me since I don't really eat traditional meals either.)    I'll try the 20 minute thing, but I'm not entirely comfortable with it.

20 minutes is ample time for your dog to eat.  Most dogs that get bloat from speed eating are finishing there bowls of food in about 30 seconds or so.

The reason I'm not comfortable with it is that after I give him the command that it's ok to eat dinner, about 15 minutes later he comes to find me to see if it's ok for him to finish the other 1/2. [:D]  He usually eats his meal over a 45 minute span, one or two kibbles at a time.

i dont even know how to comment how unbelievably rude that is of you

I have been watching your posts for a while now, and am actually quite tired of the misinformation you seem so persistent in defending.  The post that offended you was tame compared to what I was thinking at the time.  Sorry if you still thought it was rude.
