dog whisperer and collar

Did I miss something, who is SlateMag? This thread was started by someone else. I'm on a dog forum to discuss dogs. If someone says they are a professional and therefore they know what they are talking about it opens the door to questioning what they mean by "a professional". I don't think I "got ugly" and never used ignorant repeatedly to describe your views as you did mine.

Let's agree that we are going to disagree.

Oh for goodness sakes....with the number of CM threads constantly going on in this forum it's easy to get a couple mixed up.

Ignorance is merely a lack of knowledge.  I was ignorant on the subject of nutrition when I first came to idog......doesn't make me a horrible person, just an uneducated one in that particular field.

But, telling folks to go to another thread if they don't agree with THIS one, or more specifically with your point of view, is rather rude.

This discussion started about the illusion collar and has gone way south since the beginning, primarily because of the CM defenders who have felt it neccessary to jump to the defense of someone who, gee, has his own TV show and probably a pretty big pile of money.

And, riders can also guide by the simple settling of a seatbone onto the saddle. Watch dressage - the aids to the horse should be imperceptible.

Off topic but in my field of expertise....

Have you watched competitive or Olympic level dressage recently????  I wouldn't say imperceptible is the order of the day. (although it should be)

Some of the methods being used by the top-level riders are down right scary.  Just google rollkur and see what I mean.  That debate make the CM debate look very, very, VERY tame.

Wow, this thread has gotten downright nasty at times.  I'm glad I missed all the fireworks when they were happening.

While it seems there are disagreements as to the how of training our dogs, we can all build upon the fact that our dogs need to be trained.

I think this thread was started asking about the "illusion collar."  I learned what the collar was, what it is meant for and I don't want one.

I'm not going to attack anyone, or flame anyone or agree or disagree with any of these posts-at least not in this thread.  I think that there are some pros and some cons to any type of training, but those pros and cons do not necessitate name calling or disparaging remarks.  JMHO

Third and final warning...this is the OP..stay on topic!!!

Hi, does anyone know about the collar that he uses in one show? It is two red collars looks like a turtleneck with space. We use a gentle leader but i don't think that it allows me to show Smoochie what I want to show her.

Sorry tbr202, never seen dog whisperer-don't have cable or satellite feed.

To the OP....what is it you are wanting to show your dog??  If you can tell us what problems you are running into or what it is you want him/her to do that he/she is NOT doing, perhaps we can come up with some ideas.  As I've said many times, I'm not an expert at anything, but do have a fair amount of dog experience and would be happy to try to help.  Failing that, with the bunch of us brainstorming, we can usually come up with some GOOD ideas.  But, we need more info.

    Glenda,
I just looked and it seems the OP logged on, made that one post back on 8/18 and hasn't even returned to read the responses. I think your question and the rest of our antics have fallen on deaf ears. If he does come back I'm sure he'll be surprised at where his thread has gone. I'm glad the Mods have a lot of patience  to have let this thread meander the way it has (being a large part of that meandering myself). I think it is time to let this one die.

Jaime, I edited my post out in deference to your warning.  Apparently, I made a booboo and made richard's day.  Sorry to have taken the thread OT.  I guess we'll just let him have at me somewhere else - I'm out of this one. [:)]

It would seem I'm a bit late to respond... but I started using the Illusion Collar with my 3 year-old rescued brittany just a few weeks ago. We have a large fenced yard so we'd hardly go for "walks." When we did, it was a terrible problem. He'd be pulling all over the place.. back and forth.. left and right.. a big mess. I received the Illusion Collar and after about 2 blocks with minimal correction, our Brit became an excellent walker. I was afraid this would be tough on him but I look down and he's wagging his tail having the time of his life following me around on our walks.
