Why do they zoom after baths?

Okay I am sitting here laughing because Royce is doing his very best impression of Secretariat around the living room. The reason? A bath of course. All of my dogs have always done bath zoomies....

    WHY?

LoL, it seems strange they have an instinct to party after a bath.

I have no clue, but that seems like something the big dogs do. Luke never does it. He just curls up in a towel and shivers. The post bath zoomies are so funny though.

It's not a 'big dog' thing -- it's a "SOME dogs" thing LOL

My Prissy (pom/peke mix of many many moons & years ago) used to have THE hugest zoomies after a bath!

I've always thot it has something to do with a residual "instinct" that running will get you dry and get you warm faster.  And some dogs just allow the domesticated bliss of being cuddled in a fluffy towel over-ride the need for speed LOL

Willow loves to zoom after a bath and grab the towels and shake them.  Shes not really all that playful otherwise.  But, get her wet and its on. . .even after drying off from the rain.

Gotta love the zoomies, LOL. Poor little Luke, I bet he shivers his way into looots of cuddles and treats while he's warming up Angel

I bet it is exactly what you said, Callie. That makes good sense :) My childhood dog Mocha, (some sort of poodle mix) did it like crazy. I have great memories of my sister and me giving her a bath, then turning off the lights in our room and Mocha running around like a crazy thing. She ran into us and we never knew where she was gonna pop up- we thought it was hysterical and she sure didn't mind ;)

I can't think of a dog I've owned that didn't get the post bath zoomies.  I think it's a combination of feeling great after a full body massage Big Smile combined with the joy of being released after standing still for the bath.  I always think of this song whenever I see a dog with the zoomies. LOL

     ha haha Jackie too funny

Yea I think it feels good but also they need to release some anxiety/energy after standing still for so long

Lori Bugsy loves the attack the towel thing too - I always have two ready, one for him to 'kill' and one to dry him Big Smile

I convinced that Rascal is so elated he survived the HORRORS of a bath, that his zoomies are a celebration of life (to which he thought he would never return). Like kissing the ground after disembarking from a perilous sea journey!

He does it even if he only gets a "spot bath," like if I wash his paws. In fact, if I really need to wear him out for some reason, I get his paws wet just so he will exhaust himself by zooming around the house! :-p

Maybe just my little dogs don't do it. Luke and Pigeon don't zoom.

LOL!  My pitties do it, I call it their "oooooh fresh!" zoom!  They both have horrid allergies...so after I wipe down paws and face they always get zoomie too!  All good "inside" behavior is thrown out the window!

With Bull Terriers, we call it Hucklebutts.  Bugsy will do them for no other reason than feeling good.

I also think they have somthing to do with getting "daim bramage" caused by getting wet.  We have a lot of daim bramage around here!!

I've had four Lhasa Apsos and they all did this. Even after a blow dryer session. I do agree with the others that it's kind of fun to watch.

It must be instinct.  It helps to dry off, I'm sure.  It's better to dry them with a towel and hair dryer.

No idea why but both my kids did it too. Elias still does! After his shower he runs stark naked into his bedroom and bounces like a madman on his bed! LMBO!

    My answer? because they CAN.
