    I'll disagree with you on one point, e.  I have SEEN people punish dogs who were fearful.  I've seen punishment or coddling and neither is the right approach.

    I do agree, it doesn't matter what you call yourself, it's all about getting the dog to focus on you, BUT, I think that different terms have different meanings to different people.  However, I don't think it's helpful to argue semantics.

    And yes, Jackie.  I totally agree that Anne said it a whole lot better than I could have either.

    I would get a sturdy slip collar, but use that as the backup and not the training tool.  If the GL was otherwise working and the dog is accustomed to it, I would continue using the GL but also snap the leash to a slip collar as backup control if necessary.
