Panting?

    Panting?

Lucky has been panting a lot lately, it's as tho she ran miles which she hasn't she will just sit there and pant she could be outside and come in and pant, its getting to be where she's panting more and more frequently. I'm worried about it.  Maybe she needs a haircut? I'm not sure why she's doing this.  I'm ready to take her to the vets but of course you get them to the vets and they seem to be normal lol.

Is it bad that's she's panting so much?

Has it gotten much warmer suddenly?

Panting can be from heat, stress and unfortunately illness.  It sometimes accompanies such things as hypothyroidism and heart problems.  If she isn't stressed and it isn't noticably warmer, I think maybe a call to the Vet isn't a bad idea.  I hope everything is fine!!!

It's been warmer for about a week now but she's been doing it before that, like just now I went into another room she was sleeping in her bed but heard me get up so she got up and walked into the other room and she's panting.  I know I usually head to the vets when I should have waited it out but I think I'm gonna take her.

Not liking the way she just goes to another room and panting. Just what I need a vet bill. With going to the vets what should I get done? Because they can usually get me to do everything and anything they wanna do Tongue Tied. Maybe get just a full blood work up?

Is Lucky older, maybe she's having some arthritis pain?  Is she walking OK?  I'd just have them examine her and especially listen to her heart/lungs.  I'd say blood work if you can-it can never hurt. Is she acting sick at all?

Lucky will be 10yrs in May.She's walking fine I know some days she limps but it goes away within a few hours. I'll take her in and see whats going on.

    Thanks

     How's Lucky doing???

Lucky has an appointment on Friday. I figured I will give it a few more days I can be a worried wart, but she's still panting.

I want to get her a haircut just shave her but the first time the lady had her for 8 hours I can't do that to her, or me I worried to much plus 8 hours just to get shaved I didn't like that at all.  Second time I bought a shaver and did it myself yea umm that didn't work and I had to go to another place and pay another $25 to have them fix her up lol

My grandmother knows someone but she does it out her garage and Lucky is a runner so I'm worried that Lucky will get loose and run off.

I'll post whats going on with Lucky when I find out. thanks for caring Smile

In honesty, it's very very apt NOT to be a grooming issue -- it's far more likely that it's heart.  Heart stuff does not have to be super expensive -- but you must get it checked out.

I agree.  Most of the time it's not advisable to shave a dog - you ruin the coat's natural insulation ability, from both hot and cold.

With Lucky being a senior, I don't think that any shaving of her hair would help. It might not grow back the same.

If she checks out ok, and you still feel like she's just hot, ask around. Find someone who is really GOOD, and have her deshed and belly shaved. Don't shave her entire body, unless you absolutely have to. Living with a hairless dog, and being a groomer, it has become VERY obvious to me that a dog needs it's coat to insulate. Bean overheats so fast, you can blink and miss it.

How'd she make out at the vet?

Vet said everything looks and sounds good blood work fine x-rays fine (my wallet isn't fine tho lol) He doesn't know why she's doing it either he always said he doesn't believe she's getting hot because of her coat. Her gums looked great.

The whole time at the vets she whined and when the doctor went to check on her blood work she jumped up on me whining so I was petting her and on her right front leg the upper part she had this lump which I never felted before and so I started to feel for more and she had one on her right side again but on her belly well the right side of it.

So when the vet came back I told him about it and he wow I didn't even feel those and he checked her out, he said they were something  forgot but he told me to watch them and if they get bigger to bring her in so he can remove them and send them out. I'm wondering how I missed these lumps.

Lucky got her shots today as well, she seems to be exhausted from being at the vets. Thanks for wondering.

Glad he didn't find anything awful.  The lumps are probably fatty tumors, known as lipomas, and if you see them growing, or are concerned, you can have the vet do a needle aspiration of the tumor to make sure that there's nothing but fat in them.  Vets don't normally check for it routinely if they don't see other symptoms, but some dogs are exercise intolerant if they have hypothyroidism.  The full panel to test for it is about $90 and the meds are cheap.
