Hey...so I haven't been around with too many problems with Gibby lately.......... oh he is still the "bad boy" sometimes...but he is growing up and getting better and better all the time.  Biggest thing is to keep him from getting too excited......because THAT is when he gets hand to handle.

BUT..... he has picked up a new habit.  I have several dog beds in my  house....in various rooms and of course the one in our bedroom that he sleeps on at night. I have always put a blanket on them....that way I can just wash the blankets more often and save a little wear and tear on the beds.  Of course dogs love to kick up the blankets and get them in a big pile and plop down on them...and Gibby does do that.  But now he just kicks them off his bed...almost always. HE doesn't even try to get them in a pile often...just gets on his bed...throws the blankets off and lays down. Thats fine...its his bed...he can do what he wants.

HOWEVER....he has been taking all the blankets off my bed when we are not home.  Yes...the dear boy!  We have always barricaded him between the laundry room and our bedroom...a little hallway in between. WE leave him with stuffed bones and kongs....in the laundry room.  WE put a big fitted mattress pad ovdr our bedspread and pillows and he usually eats the stuff from the laundry room and then jumps on the bed and goes to sleep. Of course sometimes a pillow or so is on the floor......sometimes he has the mattress pad piled up. But now that he has gotten into the habit of taking blankets off HIS bed.........lately he has been taking the mattress pad off the spread.....the gets the spread off the bed...the pillows and a snoopy pillow that I keep on my bed. We come home and there is just the bottom sheet on.  Everything else is on the floor.   What a mess.  Besides wondering how long it will be before he puts a hole in something.

Today before I left I sprayed bitter apple on the bedspread under the mattress pad...hoping he won't like the smell or taste so he would leave the mattress pad alone. WRONG...everything on the floor.

    Anyone have any ideas??????

I have no suggestions Dyan. I find it very cute though!!

Be careful with the bitter stuff! Emma thinks it's a condiment. She EATS anything it's sprayed on!

Personally, I'd probably gate the bedroom if it became an everyday issue. Emma's done it, once or twice (it probably took her longer than GibbyBig Smile), but I started confining her, again, for other reasons.

EEKS on the condiment idea!!!!   I HAVE heard that before though.  I sprayed it on when he happened to walk in and he started barking right away at it.....I said to DH "I guess he remembers this stuff!"  I used to spray it on his leash that he used to LOVE to bite when we were walking.

Bproblem with confining him again is..................that IS confining him!  LOL! Seriously....since we gave up on the crate after having him in it for the first 2 months and him crying and slobbering the whole time he was in it......We started using this as his confinment....and we have been doing this for well over a year now. He has pushed a pillow or two on the floor....has kicked up stuff...but this is EVERYTHING off except the bottom sheet...and God knows if that will go next.   Funny...when we come home the bones are usually still in the laundry room cleaned out....as tough he spends time in there finishing all of his goodies and then goes on the bed to sleep. The last two times that he pulled everything off the bed he had his bones in the bedroom....  wonder what THAT means!!!

    Hehehe...yeah Lori...he's an amusing dog........LOL  LOL!!!!

Big piece of card, wrapped in foil.  Or a couple of pieces.  Place it on the bed.  He won't like the feel of it and will leave it alone.  When he hasn't done it in ages, the habit will probably be broken.

Is the laundry room big enough to put a bed in and gate him in? Mine isn't, and my dogs are small enough that they could fit behind the dryer, and start trouble, but....

What about the kitchen, with some child locks on the cabinets? LOL Gibby, stop being a pain!!!

Dyan, can you put a gate in your bedroom door so he can only be in the laundry room and hall?

I second the gate across the bedroom idea, or shut the bedroom door entirely if possible.

I tried that once to see if it worked, so I could recommend to students - it kept the hound off, but the Aussies just moved it and lied down anyway:-)  Maybe it was not a great test, since my dogs usually are allowed on all the furniture.  But, it did confirm my notion that Maska is a comfort freak and the girls don't care.

I heard (but i havent try it yet) that you could buy car mats or office mats (the ones that have the little rubber points underneath) and place them upside down either next to the bed or on the bed (in case they jump on the bed and over the ones on the floor). The feeling on their paws is not the most comfortable one and that will keep them away.

Hey it worked for me, but I'll allow your dogs might be smarter than mine! Big Smile
