gizmo was so fuzzy in vets' office HELP pls!

I took my 1.5 yr old shih tzu to the vet because of ear infection. It was my first time to take him to a vet since we adopted him from the pound last year. Anyway, I was just so upset about how he acted in the office after seeing all the other dogs and also kitties.  I took him out tons of times to pee outside, inside the office he tried to pee near the counter, near the wall etc, when I grab him to sit with me, he makes this whimpering sound.

Whenever I'd let him on the floor he'd pee, he even pooped inside the vets room while we were waiting to get seen.

WHat should I do? all the other animals were so behaved.

I wouldn't be embarrased....or upset.   All of those people who had such well behaved pets have probably had at least one accident...or three.

Vets and techs are used to seeing it also.  They understand.

Vet trips can be pretty trying for an animal.  All of the smells, sights, sounds.   The dog was probably nervous.

But really, sometimes even people get nervous about going to the doctor.

Maybe if you would try to keep the dog focused on you instead of everything else, it would help tone down the stimulus. Treats, toys, etc.  Keep him busy.

Start making routine trips to the vet for the sole purpose of having the techs pass out treats to your dog.  Take his most favorite treats in the whole world for the techs.

That way the dog thinks "that place" is the holy grail of all good places to be.
