    Brushing her tail

My dog can not stand for me to brush her tail. She is as big as I am so we both get tired and I give up trying to soothe her to let me brush it. She is a long haired saint and needs to be brush so no knots forms. I had a collie to do this but he was not as stubborn.Any ideas?

Have you tried detangler? Like a conditioner spray?

It sounds to me like you might be inadvertantly praising her for not cooperating. I would just take a more no nonsense attitude about it. It's not an option whether she lets you brush it or not, it needs to be done and she needs to cooperate. [;)] Dogs can tell when you mean business or not. I would just be firm, make sure to have a leash on her so that she can't run off if she decides she doesn't want to cooperate. Don't do any soothing, just be quiet and if she struggles, a simple "no, be still" will be fine and keep doing what you're doing. Make sure to give her some low key praise when she's being still. Keep the sessions short at first, always end on a good note, and YOU end the sessions with and "okay" or other release word.

I would probably go about this the same way I first acclimated my puppy to be being brushed. Starting out with a couple of swipes of the brush, reward or treat, then stop. Repeat over and over doing a little more brushing each time. I'd do it several times a day in order to make some progress on that tail.
