    Barking at the other pets

Our dogs are in the kitchen in an x-pen most of the time, but they can see out to the living room where our turtles and snakes are.  Now, initially, Petey used to bark at the turtles whenever they moved or made noise, but we worked hard at correcting that and hadn't had a problem with it in a almost a year.

Well, for the past few days, he's started doing it again.  But, he knows he's not supposed to because as soon as we go to correct him, he stops.  But, we leave the area or the turtles move again and he starts up again.  It's gotten very annoying and we can't just sit there waiting for him to try it - he doesn't do it if we're there.  Suggestions?  Is he doing it just to get attention?

Maybe the thing with the turtles is what my collie has with cats: high prey drive (according to his breeder anyway). I've had no luck curing him of this after 4 years so I can't help much -- just commiserate. [:o]  The breeder(also a trainer) said to put him on leash, walk him past the cat, and when he pulled, pull back and say NO firmly. Didn't work, neither does LEAVE IT, although I've had more luck with the latter. One of my other collies has learned he's not to do that, and will actually bark & herd him away from the cat! P.S. He doesn't actually hurt the cart, just wants to chase her -- if she doesn't move neither does he.
