Diggin' mutt.

    Diggin' mutt.

Taz. I swear I could kill him right now. As soon as I'm done with this I have to go fill in 15+ holes that Taz, and Taz alone, dug. They're all to small to have  been done by Sam. And, none of these hole's popped up until 5 months after we got Taz.....almost a year now I've been having to punish BOTH dogs for what Taz has been doing. Sam's never been a digger. He only dug every once in a while when he was younger(like, when we left him outside all day alone). Taz dig's by the fence, by the concrete, under the shed's. EVERYWHERE!!!

How do I get him to stop? He has no respect for me. For Mom. For Dad. NOBODY!

    Help!!

What about giving him a designated dig spot/ sand pit.I feel most excessive diggers are bored. You could provide some puzzle toys or chew bones to keep him busy.Could you get him involved in some training activities?

Our yard is full of various toys.....plus Sam. As long as someone is out there with him, we will not dig, but you leave for 5 mins and he's starting a new hole. He wass neutered at 5 or 6 months, so I don't think he's trying to roam. And I do try to include him in my training. But that little ^%$%^&*&^%$ has a mind of his own, and doesn't want to reespect anyone. Mom and Dad just think it's cute - I, however, an sick of putting up with it. Taz just walks on water to Mom and Dad. *sigh*

(Sigh) Dogs don't dig to disrespect you.  Digging is normal canine behavior, it's just that humans don't understand it and don't like it, 'cuz it ruins the geraniums.  Some dogs dig to make a "cooling pit".  Some dig out of a desire to escape.  Some dig out of anxiety (which is almost always made worse by some human yelling at them to quit digging.)  You will never stop a dog from digging if you leave him alone to dig, and you will make the likelihood of anxiety worse if you "correct" him for digging while you are there.  If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.  Make him a digging pit out of sand, fill it with some "surprises" that he can get by digging *there*, and at first, help him dig in the right spot by making a big deal out of finding the surprises (milk bones will do for this).  Stay with him every time he's out (for a while) and if he digs in another spot, don't make a fuss, just call him over to the right dig spot and make sure he makes a "find".  Praise him and get jolly for that.  I don't know why people always seem to want to address these issues as if the dog stays up late at night trying to figure out new ways to piss us off, but it's really counterproductive when you try to determine what will actually work to reduce Spot's digging-in-the-wrong-spot.

dogs don't understant the concept of "respect". Dogs who dig lots of holes are generally bored out of their minds and being totally failed by their owners who are not exercising them enough physically and mentally, and who think, oddly enough, that highly social animals should be fine outside alone isolated from their group. NOT.

Thats part of the answer and the other part is outside time as not only activity time but relaxation time, calm time.
