Cat peeing on BF's clothing.

    Cat peeing on BF's clothing.

I hope I have this in the correct forum.

I had a cat, a large male, neutered.  I never had any problems with him, never, he was the most lovable animal.

I then met this man, he was putting up tables for a benefit while wearing a baseball cap.  He kept smelling something, he would go around asking people "Do you smell that, do you smell that, what is it, where's it coming from?"   Eventually he figured the cat peed on his hat.  I had to stifle my laughter, he walked around over 8 hours wearing this hat.Devil

He had a pair of boots in front of the fireplace.  I saw my cat, I said, it looks like he's peeing doesn't it, at the same time thinking, not my cat, he has never done this....."He's not is he" Of course not....Well, he was, he was peeing on his coat, and boots.

This cat has NEVER done anything like this before.  Is this their way of saying they don't like someone.  I mean, the man was an idiot, did the cat sense this....

My cats have peed on clothing before.  They did it once and then would do it again.  I've been treating the area (and the clothes) with Nature's Miracle, or just throwing them out.  Most cats like to pee on things that are malleable, like clothes and litter.  He will need to treat the clothes with something that breaks down the enzyme or cats will continue to pee on it.  You will also want to treat that area in case any got on the carpet or floor.

I don't believe animals do things out of spite.  The litter box could be too dirty for the cat's taste, he could have an infection, there could have already been cat pee on that man's stuff....

The litter box was cleaned daily.......The man never had another cat in his newly built home, and he didn't like my cat.

I had a cat in high school that I had caught as a feral kitten and it that hated everyone. He loved me though and would errupt into a chorus of howls when he saw me walking home from school. He used to swat at my two year old brother and leave nasty scratches so my mom had him nuetered in hopes it would calm him....and it did.

UNTIL I brought home my first boyfriend and that cat pee'd on everything of his. Never anyone else's and never another boyfriend after that. That guy had no animals at home so I could never really figure it out but he just didnt like that one guy for some reason.

    Who knows?

Your not the only one that laughed!!  Not because your cat peed on his hat but me picturing a man walking around with his nose in the air trying to figure out what that nasty smell is for 8 hours!!!

At least now he knows what cat pee smells like and will know immediately next time what it is.

I laughed even more after reading this. You " painted " a very good picture.

Why a cat might pee on a man's clothing.....well men are not always the most clean about their person's. I imagine that hat had many months of greasy male odor on it. I remember the same thing happening with a girlfriend of mine's cat. With her, it was the children's clothing, shortly after they had been toilet trained...kids were young and probably not getting themselves totally clean. I remember, at this point in their life, my dogs really trying to get after them and sniff.. That's my thoughts on it anyway.

Edited to add. I"m not saying that his hat smelled like pee or poop...since that is the other example that I brought up. I'm just saying, some times the dirty greasy smell and who knows what other good odors that might be on it will tempt a cat to leave his scent.

This is exactly how my cat was hated EVERYONE but me.

Eh, he was an idiot, a complete idiot.  I really wonder if the cat sensed idiot didn't like him.

Now, the idiot was an avid hunter.  He shot a bear on a hunting trip once, and had it mounted (is that the right saying)  (lovely decor don't you think.....His hobby is shooting, when it comes to trophy's and such his words "I would rather win a duck or a trophy something nice for the home, instead of shells.....Yes, we are polar opposites thank you!) anyway, where was I going with this, got side tracked for a momement.....Oh the bear!  I had found this little dog, it was so cute, I brought it in, gave him a bath (called his oscar) he was a doll, idiot hated him too, my friend took Oscar, however before I moved out, the dog peed on the bear twice......I felt bad......For Penny who was taking him......But not for his beloved trophy..... Oscar is doing well, rarely has any accidents;-)

His hat could have hat something on it, I would never call it man smell cause that would imply (am I bitter, hey I have his child, he's never seen or inquired) he was a man.....He would leave for a trip "Aren't you taking your toothbrush" "No I'm only going for a day" OMG.......I swear he wasn't like this when I met him.....

I really hope someone else brought an animal into that home, if I remember right, it will pee in the same area Oscar did;-)  Anyway, most people would have smelled their clothing hats, long before the end of the day.
