    rwbeagles-Just a Cleo funny...

Cleo appears to learn, even when not actually being taught. The following is just a story about that...

So, Cleo loves the family...including my dh...who likes her plenty...just not her ever present tongue. Cleo is now and always has been an "open mouth" kinda dog...not mouthy or licky mind...her mouth is simply always agape with tongue hanging out. It's just her. So when she comes over for attention her tongue WILL be on your pantlegs...heck if she passes you in the hallway her tongue will getcha.

dh...dear man he is...HATES the tongue...lol. So recently he's taken to...when Cleo comes in from outside (she has to greet everyone in a passing head bobbing hello when she comes in)...he grabs a chewman fleece and shoves it into her mouth, THEN pets her and says hello. Well he's been doing this consistently for about a week...we all giggle at him because it's funny to see a grown man searching frantically for a dog toy...I told him I'd keep a stash of em by his spot on the couch Wink.

Well NOW...starting yesterday or maybe day before. Cleo comes in from outside and IMMEDIATELY searches out some sort of toy. She can't always find chewman...but Kong, tennis ball, or in an extreme pinch....nylabone will do. THEN she approaches us to be greeted. LOL. Talk about osmosis...she is a smart girl sometimes...esp when it comes to her getting some pats n tickles.

What a smart girl!  I guess that's classical conditioning at its best.  Nice story thanks for sharing.

This is the first line of defense against a mouthy puppy, so that's sound training!  If you've got a pup that bites to get attention, you cram something in their mouth and then praise them when they "settle" with the toy.  This is the first I've heard it used as an anti-tongue technique, though.  Stick out tongue

Lynn's the same way - she learns very casually, and is bored by drilling or formal training.  But she eats up the clicker training.  That's not work, that's snacks!

LOL! Yep. As many pics as I've taken and shared I have very, very few with her mouth CLOSED...LMBO. She's a nutter.

     That's really cute, good Cleo!

Rascal has to have a toy in his mouth before playing with BF. I'm not really sure why, but if BF gets up from his desk and Rascal wants to use that as an excuse to play, he'll run around frantically until he finds a squeaky toy (or sock, or tissue, or...) and then will start leaping in the air and doing play bows while doing his playful growly noises. He won't play until he finds something to chew on.

Playing with a man = need for something in your mouth? ::shrug:: Angel
