introducing a new dog - quick help

(i know there are already some posts about this, but i'm in a bit of a hurry. i already posted in the general category, sorry for the repeat!)

the short of the long of it is that we were looking to get a second dog.

originally we were looking for a NSDT (nova scotia duck toller), and we already have a spayed female JRT (jack russell terrier- Zoey). i was afraid that Zoey would be too territorial with another dog being in HER house and playing with HER toys. she has a fair bit of experience playing with other dogs, since she frequently goes to my mother in law's place, where she has many dogs (about 6). she picks on the smaller ones (shih tzus) that she runs with, but that has kinda worked itself out now that she's almost a year old. we've even managed to get her to be civil with the cats (2), and she knows "leave it" fairly well. she will usually kinda roll over on her side (wagging tail like crazy) when she meets a new dog on the street that's bigger than her.

in our search for a NSDT, we came across a lab/sharpei mix dog (so cute!)... the man who is giving him away (for FREE- to a good home) is sick and is needed more and more hospital time :( so he wants the dog to go to a good home. from what he says, he is very docile, friendly with cats (the man used to have one), doesn't bark unless he needs to go pee (little woofs at door)... he seems great! the man says that when he has to go to the hospital for treatment, that the dog goes to a kennel/doggy daycare, and gets along well with those dogs. i guess from the kennel, he's heard that he loves to run and play with the other dogs, the man says he's very calm at home..

.also, he is 3 years old.

so far, things sound like a match to me, i'm still very weary about getting them together. the man says that there are a few people that have shown interest in the dog and replied to his kijiji post. he is calling tonight to set up a time to go see him, tomorrow i think... he lives 40 minutes away.

SO, do i bring Zoey to the meeting? if we like him do we jump on him right away and bring him home- with just the weekend to have them interact before they're left alone during the day (while we're at work)??? i guess it would be best to make this one trip alone to see if we like him. then another to get him if we decide yes, but go with Zoey the second time?? argh! i hate rushing this, but i worry this dog will get away if we don't act quickly.
