OK, so I can stop typing now!

I found a cool website that discusses most of the major behavior issues that come up on this forum.  Kathy Diamond Davis is the contributor, and her articles are well written, and full of great info.  If you go to www.VeterinaryPartners.com and type "Canine Behavior Series" in the search box, you can read them to your heart's content.

There are dogs that will kill each other left to their own devices, but of course, you don't believe that. [;)]
Also, many owners have neither the capacity, nor the constitution, to be dealing with a fighting problem that won't go away.  And, a behaviorist or trainer sleeping at your house 24/7 isn't an option LOL.

Would love to do herding, but we quit flyball.  I'm using the rest of the weeks I paid for to add agility classes.  She's doing really well, and, after a long chat, my trainer agreed that the flyball situation might not be good for her right now.  I'm still going to read Lonnie's book, though.  If she could help me get Sioux (hated the dumbbell) to retrieve without resorting to an ear pinch, then she can probably train flyball dogs. Totally agree with that part but i see it more as a whilling situation, if they really really want to then it will work

I can agree to that. The one time I took Shadow to a dog park, he was charging all the males and sniffing all the females (he was unaltered and I didn't have a lot of training in.) Sometimes, he's defensive, other times, not. So, I always supervise him. If it looks like a no-go, I don't force the issue. I realize some dogs will tussle while they sort out who's who, but we don't have to get along with everyone to be happy, just get along with each other and have some obedience should he be off-leash and a problem arises.

But I tend to believe that some problems are best solved by avoiding the problem. Also, dogs have personalities. Some dogs they will like, some they won't. It's not like they have a union card and a secret handshake.

I know it all too well...But thankfully from another's experiences, not my own.  Two Pharaoh bitches competing for 2nd in the pack...alliances formed and it's still not pretty.

I love this site, too, but how often is it updated? Do they still update it? I've had it for months now and I keep seeing really old material.

I have no idea when, or if, it's updated.  Too bad if it isn't.  But, nevertheless, there's a lot there that can help some of the newbies and oldies, too.  I just put it in my (rather long) list of bookmarks. [;)]

Thanks, Anne. I'm going to bookmark it, too.

And, yeah, some dogs WILL kill each other, left to their own devices. They aren't a wild pack, and they're subjected to confinement. One dog cannot be pushed out of the pack.

Crate and rotate is SO not fun!
