    "fake" peeing

okay, so we haven't had to many accidents lately with kenny peeing all over the house, but now when i take him outside, he will lift his leg, but nothing will come out. eventually he does go, but whats up with the fake out? (he is fixed FYI)

Sounds like a dog with a UTI to me -- now it could be that he's just trying to squeak out a drop to mark, but if he tries repeatedly before he can 'go' ... and particularly if it's a bit dark, VET!!  Big signs of a UTI.

the funny thing is, we just took him to the vet a couple of weeks ago when he was peeing all over the house and his urine tests came out normal!

I rarely trust a urinalysis -- if the dog is drinking a lot the numbers tend not to read right --

Keira does this alot outside too and I worried about a UTI but she only does it outside and not inside.  Does Kenny do it inside at all?  Also Keira's pee is not dark at all and she usually does it after she has had her big pee.

I'd be worried about crystals. They can block the pee-passage and irritate the bladder. Dogs with crystals tend to a) pee all over the house, and b) have problems getting the pee out at times. Sometimes the vet can't find them in a particular urine sample, but they may show up in the next sample.  Was the urine pH normal? you'll need to check that yourself with a test-strip paper (try your fish supplies section of the pet store) because the urine has to be very fresh for the pH test to be accurate.

if i get some PH strips, what color should the strip be? i am not so sure about how dark his pee is. i keep thinking that he is trying to pee b/c he knows that he can't come back inside until he does it. i think i want to monitor how much water he drinks. how much should a 25 pound dog drink when he is crated for a majority of the day?
