Peeing, possible infection or just a habit??

Everything you're saying makes ME think UTI.

Remember there is a difference between dominance 'humping' and the mounting resulting in a 'tie'.  Now, no  you can't look at the male and say "Ok, son, what ARE your intentions towards my little girl here?".  But sniffing can be because one dog smells infection in another -- if she's in heat I'm not convinced he would just sniff -- cos either she's fertile or not.  BUT if she's carrying infection another dog well could sniff!

    Drinking lots?  Yep BIG symptom.

Holding it too long OH YEAH (that's a biggie cause in we humans -- not taking time to go when we can 'hold it and get something else done' or wait til it's more convenient).

I'd get to the vet tomorrow morning -- this HURTS if she's got an infection -- and if she's drinking a lot it may register as being VERY dilute, so either stick to your guns and ask them to do a culture and sensitivity or ask them to just plain give her a course of antibiotics and see if it helps.

No you don't want to over-medicate the dog, but it's easy to say that if you aren't the one feeling the burn.  And if the urine is super dilute, to ME that's a dead give-away that there's a uti.

I'd get to the bottom of it -- this is NOT normal behavior for a young dog.  So I'd get aggressive about getting to the bottom of it.  You can take your time getting the proof of spay -- a few days will net you the answers you need.  BUT don't delay getting her vet checked for a UTI -- they burn and they're miserable.

I'm prone to them myself -- so maybe I champion the dogs a bit more than most.  But this only helps you establish that bond with her that you DO care and "Mom's gonna help you!"  good luck!

I had honestly thot I mentioned the possibility of a uti way back when I asked if she was spayed.....and if I failed to, let me add my vote to getting this poor gal and a pee sample to the vet right away.
