    Tail Chasing

Hey everyone! I'm new here and I'm hoping I can get some advice about my puppy.
Well, I have a 2ish year old Jack Russell/Chihuaha mix. I adopted him almost 1 year ago and he is the best dog ever! (there are no problems with him of course) The issue is, my husband just got out of the Army. He was stationed in Germany where he bought a german shepard puppy. So now we have 2 dogs. The Shepard is now 8 months old and my problem is he has an obsession with his tail. He is constantly chasing his tail. It was cute at first, but it has gotten to the point where he is getting annoying, destructive and intrusive. My husbad has asked professionals and they say things like "he's bored" "he'll grow out of it"... etc. I've had puppies before and have had dogs my whole life and I have never seen a dog with the obsession about his tail that Jack, the Shepard does. He trips everyone, he crashes into everything because he's walking around in circles, he even knocks people over. We've tried everything to get him to stop; toys and kongs that he gets bored or done with and goes back for his tail, yelling at him but he just looks at us and does it again, we even tried spraying his tail with that "Bitter Yuck" stuff, but he doesn't seem to care.
We love him, he's a cute dog and we're hoping he'll eventually do what everyone says and grow out of it, but I'm starting to hope he doesn't have a mental defect... can dogs have ADD? [&:]

    I'm just looking for suggestions!

First of all, it's German Shepherd, not Shepard [:D]

Secondly, the GSD honestly probably IS bored.  His boredom has turned into obsessive compulsive behavior.  It is your job as the owner to redirect him.  How much exercise is he getting a day?  How much training?  What commands does he know BESIDES the basics?

GSDs need a job, and it doesn't really sound like you've given him one.  If he brought home a Shepherd pup, he's likely working lines, am I correct?  Do you know the name of the kennel the pup came from?  I would seriously consider getting this dog enrolled in some kind of high energy activity.  Hiking, schutzhund, tracking, obedience, agility...SOMETHING.  This dog needs to get a job before he really becomes destructive
