    Socks & Shoes

My dog Rocky has a thing with socks and shoes. He doesn't  chew them up. Instead, he collects them. He will carry shoes and socks into his kennel, his bed, and occassionally into our bed. The other day he grabbed a sock lying next to him and pulled it onto him like it was a blanket. It's not so much of a problem as it is a quirk of his. We've just come to expect that our shoes are in his kennel or bed.  Any ideas as to why he does this? Why shoes and socks? Thanks!

We have the same thing with Scout! She doesn't chew socks and shoes, she just re-locates them. I find socks everywhere!!

I know why Scout does it - because we instinctively go after her when she grabs them. So it's a big game! Of all the habits this one isn't so bad.

I also have a dog named Scout who loves socks, shoes, and also underwear.  Must be the name... No, really, it's about the smell.  You're socks and shoes generally have quite a bit of your collected sweat on them, and while you might think this smells gross, your dog loves it.  The concentrated smell of owner is comforting to dogs.

We used to have a dog that did that.  He was a lab/cocker X and apparently both parents were excellent retrievers.  Bud would get a sock and carry it around in his mouth very gently for about 3 or 4 days before he'd shred it - so we always had a nice window of time to get it away from him.  Max, on the other hand, takes his loot outside and either puts it in one of his holes or drops it in the pool.
