A "desire to work with you" is much more important than intelligence in getting an easy-to-train dog.

I totally agree with you on that point.  I've seen not-so-smart dogs out smart their owners into thinking that they were completely dumb.

    Apreciate your answers.
Do you think is posible to train (house train) older dogs?

And its never too late to bring out the natural instinct in an older dog to do the job that the dog was breed for.  Marvin listen to this.

You think is useful to train your dog with a professional trainer? Is this affecting the relation between you and your dog?

I would not leave my dog with anyone to train them.  But, it is an advantage to have a professional teach you how to train your dog! [:)]

No. Puppies have limited control of their bodies and attention spans of microseconds.

The dog I've had who has been the greatest pleasure to train was a dog who had recieved little to no obedience training prior to when I adopted him at the age of 2. He had been brought up well; not abused, well socialized, but he was a working hunting dog and his pervious owners had little use for training outside of the hunting context. And a coonhound needs very little training to effectively do his job (different from say gun dog training which requires excellent basic obedience first).

He came to my house an adult blank slate, and his progress was incredibly fast. A matter of a few months from no training at all to earning his CGC.

Try a clicker.  I started my old dog on the clicker at age 12...this December.  He is a pro already.

He picked it up much quicker than my other who isn't that old yet....maybe 4.
