    OK!

    Pofi
    1. How old was your dog when you first took it to training classes?
    10 weeks
    2. Why did you do it at that age?
Socialization - and for me to learn some basic techniques
    3. Did your breeder, shelter, rescue, or vet tell you about the importance of early socialization?
None involved really - Pofi was abandoned and we took him in. I do think vet encouraged when I said we were going to Puppy Head Start.  I had done reading that was very specific and emphatic on the subject.
    4. Did you spay or neuter your dog?
    Yes
    5. If so, how did you decide at what age to do that?
    Five months

    1. How old was your dog when you first took it to training classes?
6 months.  We took a beginners' class for dogs from 4 months to 2 years.

    2. Why did you do it at that age?
He injured his leg when he was a pup, so we missed the class that started 2 months earlier.

    3. Did your breeder, shelter, rescue, or vet tell you about the importance of early socialization?
Vet.  He told us that our pup was of a breed that required lots of socialization.  He told us about the safest off-leash parks, but told us that we should stay away from them until Chase was older.  He recommended several different training classes and told us about the things that we should expose Chase to (friendly dogs, lots of different kinds of people, strange noises, etc).

    4. Did you spay or neuter your dog?
    Yes.

    5. If so, how did you decide at what age to do that?
5 months.  We were planning on having him done at 6 months, but we didn't want to miss the start of the next puppy class so we did it a bit earlier.

Infected?  Am I missing something.  I know there are some health benefits (never mind not having to worry about accidently pregnancies...but I'm not quite sure what you mean about infections?

    1. How old was your dog when you first took it to training classes?

Bowie first went to class at 4.5 years old (Adopted at 3 or so).
Mya went to her first class at 6 (2 months after adopting).
Rah went to his first class at a year old (adopted at 10 months)

    2. Why did you do it at that age?
For Mya and Rah, it was as soon as I could get them in. For Bowie, it was when I realized he could really do something.

    3. Did your breeder, shelter, rescue, or vet tell you about the importance of early socialization?
Never needed to. But none have been teeny tiny puppies of my most recent three. the rescue stresses it, yes.

    4. Did you spay or neuter your dog?

    yes
    5. If so, how did you decide at what age to do that?

Bowie was neutered 1 month after I "Adopted" him, during his first surgery for his recurrent perineal hernias. He was neutered later because I wanted to do the two surgeries at once.
Mya was neutered the week before I took her home - she was a spay lab dog from vet school.
Rah was neutered one week after I adopted him, after he lifted his leg on my wall for the last time :) No really, it was the soonest I could do it with my schedule at the time (Vet school).

I started training at about 9 weeks because younger pups seem to learn easier and faster and training makes a really good bonding experience.
I researched my breeds at a young age so I knew the impotance of socialization.
Yes, most vets will tell you that to help prevent certain diseases and illnesses, spay before first heat cycle.

    1. How old was your dog when you first took it to training classes? - 4 mos. old.  We haven't stopped since!
    2. Why did you do it at that age? - it's never too early to start teaching your dog.
    3. Did your breeder, shelter, rescue, or vet tell you about the importance of early socialization? - My breeder was terrific.  He told me to take her everywhere to meet everybody.  Also to make rules and stick to them. She's a "soft dog" and hard training will just make her shut down and retreat.  He was great!
    4. Did you spay or neuter your dog? - Yes
    5. If so, how did you decide at what age to do that? - She was spayed at around 7-8 months.  After she recovered from all of her vaccinations.
