    I'm back

I finally found my way back into the forum. I had to do some password changing but I'm back.

While i'm at it, i'm going to ask for some help. Sheena hurt her hing right knee and she is now supposed to be on 14 days of rest (meaning very short walks and nothing more). I'm 3 days into it and Sheena is going crazy - whice of course is driving me crazy as well.

I would appreciate any ideas you guys have for keeping her busy. She gets tons of mental stimulation. Learning new tricks, eating only out of kongs, etc.
I need more - Keeping Sheena on leash all the time and not allowing her to run is extrememly hard.

    Thanks,
    Gal

Welcome back! Glad you finally made it!

Poor little Tyler just had a tooth pulled and was nuetered while he was under so I'm going through the same thing for 10-14 days.....and I don't care what ANYONE says, I'll follow the VETS advice on this one.

With Tyler I'm lucky because I can TELL him to play quietly and he will.  But it sounds like Sheena is much more restricted.  The best I can suggest is what you are already doing....lots of mental stimulation to make up for the lack of physical.  Maybe a stuffed kong or tricky treat ball?  Can you both handle rides in the car?  If you lift her in and out, maybe that would help with the boredom cuz at least she's seeing different stuff?  Lots of bones to keep her busy??

Sorry I don't have much to offer, but am sending healing vibes and prayers that these two weeks REALLY speed by for both of you!

How about asking your vet for a sedative? :) I have Labs, and one of them for instance had cancer surgery with the resulting huge and deep cut (sorry to hear about the pulled tooth Glenda! My 3 year old lady just fractured her upper right 4th premolar, and will have to have a root canal/crown done next week - she is way too young not to be able to eat on one side. I blame the propensity of Labs for chewing rocks. [:@]). Now, you will not be able to keep a Lab quiet long enough after something like this, so the only option really is to medicate them some, taking out some of the drive and energy for the time being. [:D]

    Worked well for me. [:)]

If you think you guys have problems, LOL....Sequoyah is getting spayed on Thursday.  Try keeping a working type Aussie quiet!!!!
I think I'm going to be going for lots of car rides with her in her crate, so she'll sleep.
Ask the vet about using valerian.  I haven't had Sequoyah tested for the MDR-1 gene yet, so I will not be using acepromazine.  I plan to ask my vet about valerian or valium.  And, I already have the soft Elizabethan collar for her.  I will freeze a gazillion Kongs and I will play Carlos Nakai tapes, and I will get ear plugs (not for Carlos, for when the dog screams to get out of her crate and blocks him out). You know, I asked the vet about a root canal, but apparently this tooth was way too far gone already and she was afraid that the abcess had already gone through the bone.  Tyler is only 8 months old but once the socket heals, I don't see eating being a problem...it isn't even now.  They've got in excess of 40 teeth so the loss of one isn't a huge big deal!

Anne, I do NOT envy you!!

Welcome back! I was wondering what happened to you. Poor Sheena, sorry to hear she's hurt. What about frozen raw bones for her to chew on? If they're frozen solid, that usually occupies Max for at least 2 hours.

    I'm glad you're back, Gal.

Bailey and I started acting class using clickers and I've got a ton of questions!
