    Holding the pee! Bladder talk!

    Hi!

I am the new proud owner of an 8.5 week old Lab/Coon mix.   He is hesitant to go in his crate at night, but finally does and settles down.  The wife and I know that he will need to be taken outside in a couple hours.  Well, the last couple nights, we put him down at 9pm, he woke to pee at 11:30pm, then not again for 5-6 hours!  We are wondering if he is dehydrated or something is wrong?  I have heard a puppy this young should not be able to "hold it" for longer than 3 hours.

Now, I'm not complaining about the extra non-disturbed sleep, but was just wondering if this was ok?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I thought this was a problem as well. The vet assured me otherwise if the puppy is sleeping he won't have to pee while asleep.  If he wakes up he'll probably have to go, so take him out.  My 3 month old pooch is sleeping for 7-8 hours at night and as long as the first thing I do in the morning is take him out in the morning he's fine with a big, long pee.  You and I have similar-sized dogs.  So be thankful.  Get your rest.  For the first week my pooch would wake up every three hours.  That wasn't fun, but as soon as I moved his crate to where I was visible he's slept like a log.

Great to hear!  I really appreciate your reply.

Last night he slept for 6.5 hours! And he wasnt even whining.  We woke up after 6.5 hours and we wondering why he hadn't woke us, so we peeked in the crate and it looked like he was moving so we took him out. We are so happy!  The first week we had him it was every 2-3 hours during the night, now it seems like that is turning into 5-6 hours.  I couldn't be happier with this aspect of the pup.
