HELP!!

Okay, this might be long but I don't know what to do. My friend just got a new dog, a boxer, for six weeks and she is so very precious. She is so cute and very full of life and energy. My friend never has time to be with her. She keeps her in a crate that is too small for her and absolutely refuses to make it bigger for her. The dog can't stretch in it, all she can do is stand an lay down, not even turn around. When she has an accident, my friend hits her. She picks her dog up by the legs and by the scruff of the neck. When the dog crys, she says it doesn't hurt her, its because she can't see the floor. The dof is so friendly. MY friend leaves all the time and doesnt spend much time with her. She hasn't started any training or anything. The dog is in good health so I can't call ASPCA but my friend kicks her and hits her and slaps her when she does something wrong. She rubs her nose in her messes and is always yelling at her. When the dog makes a mess in the house, I clean it up before my friend sees it or else the dog will pay for it. The dog had a bladder infection and my friend left her in her tiny crate and she peed all over herself and then my friend just hit her for peeing. She leaves her in her crate for long periods of time. Another friend and I have tried talking to her but she says she was told to hit her and yell at her when she is disobiedent and all the books and magazines she has read say to do it because boxers are stuborn. I don't know what books she is reading but I also don't know what to do anymore. She wont get puppy pads because she says she will just pee on any paper left on the floor, whatever. She throws the dog around in a playing manner but throws her on her back and I'm afraid she will break her back. I am at my wits end. I need some advice and help. She does so much more to this dog, I just can't think about it.

Report her anyway - this is animal cruelty.[:@] If more than one person reports this, they may take notice.
If you can snap a pic of her doing the kicking on your cell phone or digital camera, turn it in with your report.

Yes, this is animal cruelty, do as Anne said, try to get a picture.

The state I live in checks on every report that is made. So, maybe when the AC shows up she might change her behavior.....

I have a boxer and yes their energy levels are out of this world, but if you take them on a 20 to 30 min walk a day that will help with the energy. You dont get a dog that you are just gonna crate 24/7 and spend no time with them. They need exercise, and TLC. That dog should be taken from the owner!!!!! If you can please capture a pic of your friend in action and report them. No dog deserves this!!!!!

Apart from reporting the abuse, you might want to try educating your friend. There are many good books out there on appropriate ways to train a dog. Sounds like your friend simply hasn't done her homework and learned about the right approach to these issues, and may be following her gut or bad advice from friends and family. A lot of people who are new to this might think that her approach is the right way to 'housebreak' a dog, but it isn't.

Hopefully some folks on these boards can make some good recommendations for books or perhaps videos to watch. I enjoyed reading "The Art of Raising a Puppy" by the Monks of New Skete. Note that their approach is not exclusively about positive reinforcement, but it does explain the right and wrong approach to treating a puppy.

Sounds like if your friend does not reverse course very soon she is going to have a major problem on her hands.

I won't tell you my initial reaction because it's not PG-13.

This dog needs to be out of this situation NOW. Please report her to the ASPCA or animal control pronto. This "friend" has no reason to own a dog and this dog is suffering greatly because of it.

It might or it might not really all depends on your local ASPCA or Animal Control, but I strongly suggest for the puppy's sake to report her. Heck it might even scare her into stopping. If they do nothing just keep taking pictures and trying to help her learn better ways of training and keep bugging Animal Control until the will do something.

I agree with everyone too. At least call and ask the ASPCA or maybe they may have some ideas of training your friend. That is a horrible way to treat your pet she doesnt deserve all the love that the pup has to offer.

Is there any chance at all that she might let you have the dog? Then, if you couldn't keep the poor pup, maybe you could help her find a good, loving home.
