should i wake up my puppie to pee?

i know that tiny puppies have very small bladder capacity and constantly need to pee, even when they are sleeping at nite, many little puppies cannot last th e whole night without getting uncomfortable. my questoin is, if i set my alarm clock in the middle of the night and wake up to find my puppie still sleeping, should i wake her up and try to make her potty? or should i wait for her to wake up? I wouldn't WAKE a pup, but I'd be ready for her to signal that she needs to go.  On the extremely rare occassions that I have ONE pup (I foster and tend to get litters) the crate goes right beside my bed where pup can see me and I can easily reach a soothing hand through the gate.  I've found that 50% or more of the whimpers are seeking reassurance and a gentle shush and finger will be enough...if the wimpering doesn't stop, it's up and out to potty....no lights other than what I absolutely need to keep from killing myself...no anything other than a quick trip to the potty place and then right back to bed.  But I let the pups tell ME when it's time.  I'm a great believer in letting sleeping dogs lie.....

I agree.  And, when pups are sleeping, they have a neat little mechanism that keeps them from having to pee.  It's when they wake up that they realize - opps, gotta go.  So, if the pup wakes up, tend to him right away (do just what Glenda said - I used to keep a pair of warmup pants next to my pillow, and tennis shoes next to the bed, LOL).

i have another question, when i lock the crate gate last nite, she started making noises, dont know if shes cryign but it sounded kinda sad. so i thought she wanted out, so i left the crate door open, but she just sat there in her crate leaning against the door for the whole night. and i was just sleeping, this morning when i woke up shes still sitting there. my question is...is there anything wrong with her? or she just wanted the door open?

    Puppies like attention. [:D]
"What? You're closing the door?  Don't leave me!!  Pay attention to me!"

Oh no definitely DONT wake her up. If she wakes up and needs to go more than likely she WILL let you know by whining or moving around. If you cant hear from where you sleep , move the crate closer to you.

As for her whining/crying at night when you put her in there. I have found that moving the crate next to the bed where she/he can sense your presence works wonders. Plus you can reach down to comfort them if needed. Its a new home, new family and its scary! This has worked with all 3 of my doggies. The newest one just needs to be near me. I dont have to reach down or anything, but if for some reason he gets upset, he settles down if I pull his crate over to the bedroom. (I say pull because its a larger crate...he's almost 20 lbs at 11 weeks. :)

    Anyway, good luck! :)
