Poll: How long do you leave your dog in their crate during the day?

How long is your dog alone during the day?
9-10 hours ... as long as it takes me to commute to work, work and return home.

Are they crated or free to roam the house?
Crated, he's not trustworthy yet and gets into trouble.  Chewing etc.

Do you set up anything for them so they can relieve themselves without a human being there to let them out?
No

If you have to leave them alone for longer than you'd like, how do you remedy the situation? Doggy day care, Pet-Nanny, etc.?
Day care and then sleep in my car as necessary (weather & temp permitting) or home visit from dog sitter.

Russell is typically left home alone about 5 hrs in the morning, BF comes home for lunch/walk, and then he's home alone another 3-4 hrs until I get home (though I'm home early relatively often). We have sometimes skipped the lunch break if BF can't make it and the dog does fine. He's uncrated w/ no potty area available to him until we take him out. He's asleep the whole time we're gone so I don't think he quite knows whether we're gone for 2 hrs or 8. I once (not purposely) left him home alone, uncrated, for 10 hrs and he was unfazed (and accident free).
 
How long a dog can hold it doesn't go so much by weight as by age. An avarage adult housetrained dog can easily hold it for around 8 or 9 hrs, they're definitely capable of longer but I wouldn't make it a regular schedule (longer than 8-9 that is).
