Tossing Biscuits out of bowl with nose

My Maltese has started doing this at night time. He tosses his biscuits out of his bowl with his nose. He's not looking for wet food, because he has that on the other side of the bowl. He usually tosses the biscuits onto the top of the food, or out of the bowl.

Does anyone else's dog do this? Any clues as to why they do it?

When you say biscuits, you mean actual dog cookies, like a treat and not kibble, right??  I'd say he's just playing with them or maybe he doesn't really want them at that moment.  Willow will try to nose stuff around and "bury" it if she's not in the mood for it right then.

Im in australia, so not sure what you mean by Kibble, but Dog Biscuits are dry dog food here - is that Kibble?

Ive now noticed that he doesnt do it if the biscuits are in a seperate bowl with higher sides.

he only does it when I put the biscuits in one side of those two sided bowls, and food in the other side.

Yes, dry dog food is referred to as "kibble" here.

I have to ask, what do you call things like Milk Bones and dog cookies if you call the food biscuits??  I've never heard anyone from Australia refer to the food that way.

Perhaps the other Australian posters are trying to use terminology that you understand as dry food is called Dog Biscuits in Australia.

Um as for what do we call the cookies etc, they are called either treats or cookies.

Well. . (snotty) ummm . . .they are ALSO called biscuits here.

My dog does this too...but he usually tosses out the pieces of food he likes best and eats those from the floor and then continues to nose out his food in the order he likes to eat it best. I always just figured it was a preference thing.
