Last night I got home from work and discovered Daly had torn up another section of carpet, as well as ripped up the rug in our entry way. The carpet was dug up along the door into our bedroom, which was closed. (We keep it closed when she's home alone because she gets on our bed to look out the window & we don't want her on our bed). I know she was attempting to get at or at least see something outside (based on the location of the damage) but I don't know how to curb it. This is the second time in about 2 weeks.
My husband and I both work during the day so she's home alone a lot. She's not usually destructive - an occasional magazine, maybe, but aside from tearing up the carpet twice now and the bathroom door once, it's never anything of value. We leave lots of chewies & toys for her to keep her amused. She still freaks out whenever we leave & she gets worse when we leave her crated (we're gone way too long for her to be crated anyway). We also live in an apartment, so her barking all day long when she's crated or confined is not acceptable. Neither is her ripping up carpet & eating up our security deposit.
Since I can't leave her crated/enclosed, does anyone have any creative ideas for how to keep her from shredding our carpet? For now we've got her crate sitting in front of the bedroom door and a piece of wire shelving covering the carpet at the sliding glass door, but I'd like to find a way to teach her that clawing at our doors & carpet is unnacceptable.
Thanks everyone!
