kenny has discovered bathroom trashcans..no turning back??

i was always glad that kenny never got into our bathroom trashcans like my parents cocker missy does. but now he has discovered them and what treasures they hold. we are trying to remember to shut the bathroom doors and to change the trash, but sometimes we forget and there is just the 2 of us so trash cans take awhile to fill. is there anything else we could do?

Buddy discovered the bathroom garbage can a few weeks ago and I just picked it up and put it on the counter.  I didn't teach a command for it; I just figured "out of sight, out of mind".  I have also taken the toilet paper off the holder and it is also on the counter.

Could you maybe put a small trash can under the sink and tie the cabinet doors shut?

What about one of those cans where you step on the thingie to open the lid?

the lidded trashcan is a cool idea...we woudln't be able to use our cool bamboo trashcan. but it would be worth not picking up shredded toilet paper!

My bathroom trashcan is on the back of the commode.

We use the stainless steel shiny step cans - bathroom and kitchen. No more trash surfing. If you get the small ones they'll sorta HIDE beside the toilet. Trust me - there are worse things to be picking up than toilet paper. [:D]

Russell started getting in the bathroom trash so we bought a wastebasket that's aluminum with a tight-fitting domed top and "push" flap in the side of the dome (restaurant style I call it - from Target). No way for a dog to get in it.

Ugh! I know what you mean, trust me.

Grey is a bathroom garbage digger. He only digs in the hall bath, and I'm not sure why he prefers that one. We make it a point to close the doors, but there have been times where I KNOW the door was closed, and he got in anyway. I really thing he has thumbs that we can't see because he's getting into the bathroom somehow.

Meanwhile, I bought a new kitchen garbage...the step-on kind. I can't wait to see if Brown can figure out this one.

Put the trashcan in the tub or if you have a glass-in shower, in there.  My dog had a fit for a couple weeks doing this till I put the trash out of her reach.  Never did it again after that (she was about age 3).

Here's what some trainers advise...Set a mousetrap in the trash can.  Just be sure it is the type that can't catch the dog's nose or paw.  For safety, you can set it upside down.  Place a piece of wax paper over the trap, with a little bit of peanut butter on it.  It makes more noise to startle the dog:-))  This "booby trap" method makes the dog think that the trash can is the problem, not you.  So, he stays out of the can even when you aren't home. [;)]
