Help! My dog suddenly doesn't want to go outside for a walk????

Help -- I'm desperate. My dog (corgi/beagle mix rescue) is about 3 years old. He loves to go outside for a walk and we've never had any issues....until about a few days ago. Suddenly he doesn't want to go down the stairs and outside. Our first thought is that it must be something physical but we don't think that's it -- he goes up and down the stairs in the house all the time (and easily) and when we do manage to coax him outside, when he's done, he runs up the stairs very quickly and happily. We are taking him to the vet to rule out anything physical but I really think it's something mental. Has anyone every experienced anything like this before or have any suggestions??? It helps to bribe him with treats to get him down the stairs and out the front door but this is completely NEW AND STRANGE BEHAVOIR. I'm desperate for any help. Thank you so much!

has it been raining and storming a lot lately where you live? it has here and our puppy, who usually begs to go outside has been hesitant since it started raining.[sm=2cents.gif]

Is it at all possible that something scary happened to him outside? Maybe a snake? Or a cat? A loud truck? Something that you were totally unaware of that left an impression with him?

Maybe you can try walking him on a leash around the house for a little while, then slowly move on to walking outside around, but close to the house, and eventually show him that there's nothing to be afraid of. While you're doing this, talk to him constantly, and keep your tone positive. I can't say it'll work, but it might worth a try.

Something probably happened to him while he was outdoors, something that scared him. If you carry him outside, would he walk once he's outdoors?
