Won't pee when it's raining!

My uncle used to have  Newfindland and she would not pee in the rain either. I remember him trying to pick her up and take her to the grass area in his back yard and it was the funniest thing to see this 130 lbs dog scared as heck, haha! She would tiptoe back to the house becuase she hated her paws getting wet, um arnt Newfies water dogs? LOL! Sorry to have to say it but she started going in the garage when it rained. I hope someone has a better solution for you

You gotta go into the grass with him and wait lol.  Its the only way for a lot of us.  It helps if on non raining peepees you give a command like "go potty" or "go peepee" and when he goes praise for that.  Eventually he will know what that is and it may help on those rainy days.

Duke & Daisy both don't like to get wet.  Eventually they will go if I am persistent enough, but it gets really annoying.  Do you have any overhangs or a deck?  Sometimes they will go under the deck I have gravel there and they will go there sometimes.

Yea, Gobi does not like to get wet at all!! He even insisted to walk right next to my leg to try and stay under the umbrella!!!  He tolerates a bath but he moans the entire time haha! I dont have a deck or a back yard, (I live on the 18th floor in a studio with my wife, (she's an artist)) There are dry spots but he still refuses to go, I do the "go pee" thing when he goes and he gets a little treat after. Just for now by the way, i'm trying to get him in line. He was dumped and lived on the street for who knows how long. I work until 11pm and it's my "duty" to walk him when I get home.I like the walks at night, he gets very distracted (lots of good smells in Hong Kong) so it's good for me to work on his walking on a leash and  sitting when we get to a crosswalk ect... My wife was out with me today so thats why he was alone. He just refuses to go. Or maybe he didn't have to go??? He's sleeping with his hairbrush now, no accident's or anyting yet. Except when he was really sick, the vet said the steroids might do that.
  Sorry, so many questions, I have one more and I dont feel like doing a new post. I've had a lot of dogs growing up, but I have never had one as gassy as Gobi. He let one go in the elevator this afternoon....you can just imagine what 18floors was like! Is it the food or are some just farters?

I can relate! My dog also hates rain (but she will tolerate baths) and when it rains, despite coaxing, a doggy raincoat (have you tried this?), treats, trying to out-stubborn each other, she will hold it until it stops raining and only then will she go out to pee. Maybe if the raining is intermittent, you can take Gobi out when it stops? That's what I do... when it stops raining even for a couple of minutes, I'm out the door and my dog does her business. You have to be quick and watch the skies though! []

I havent tried a raincoat for him, I always thought it looked funny when a dog had clothes on. I guess I will have to try though. He actually held it through the night, (it rained all night) This morning he really let it all go! I guess we will have to find another way to go. The thing is it's starting to be the rainy season here and it will rain almost every day. I dont think he could hold it for two days of rain!
Would it be difficult to train a dog to go to the bathroom in the bathroom? We have a big marble floor shower (no tub) about 15 square feet. I was thinking he could just pee there in the rain. Not that hard to wash down the drain. this would be a LAST resort though. What do you guys think?

Wait it out again and give him the most amazing treat in the freaking universe when he does pee outside. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. He will find being outside in the rain more and more interesting, if you make it worth his while. And added side effect, he will pee as soon as he gets outside, so he can get his treat.

(It has to be something truly truly special at first)

At the end of this rainy season, fade to regular treats in the rain, and then to intermittent treats but treats or whatever is special (a jog, a favored toy) always when it's raining.

I don't think it's a good idea to tell your dog that it's ok to pee in the house sometimes. There are easy ways to overcome his hatred of the rain.

Yea, I dont really want him to pee in the house, it's just that, he doesn't like to get wet, I dont care for standing in the rain much either. I'll try giving him a really good treat the next time he goes. It's just pretty miserable for both of us to sit in the rain at 12 at night. I know I can teach him to go in the rain, it will just take a while I think. I'll get him a rain coat tomorrow and try that next time, along with some good bribes...I mean treats.

Raining again here, and Gobi finally after an hour of me standing there telling him to go pee go pee go pee go pee and walking in the rain, (typhoon rain by the way!!) he finally went!!! I gave him a big chunk of steak right after he did. Hopefully he will go again when I get home.
