    odd behavior

When I take my dog out, it is without a leash.  She runs free behind our house at the back of our property to do her 'dirty little business', and there was never a problem with her listening to my command to come with me back into the house.

This worked fine for about 3 months until a few days ago.  This ONLY happens at night as well, which makes it very odd.  We never have the trouble during daylight hours.

Anyway, the problem is that when I try and get her to come back in the house she totally freaks out and runs away from me.  She will not listen to any commands I give her and won't even let me near her.  The only solution I've found is leave the door cracked open so she can nose it open when she decides she is lonely.  Any ideas/suggestions?

Take her out on a leash, at night.

Rory used to be that way at the beach only. It was crazy to me because she would listen anywhere else with or without people or dogs around. I put her stubborn butt ona leash.....oh boy was she mad! I never let her off, not even for a second for about six visits which sucked cause the whole point of taking her was so she can run free and play with other dogs and in the waves but if I couldnt trust her then there was no reason to ever come back. I tried to have her on the leash only at first and then let her off if she was being good but that didnt work becuase she was just waiting for em to let her off and she resumed her ingnoring me. I made my point the next several times by not letting her off. Your dog is going to think you have absolutly lost your mind if you try to put him on a leash at night just to walk in his own yard but its his own fault the lil brat, haha! Do that for the next five nights but DONT LET HIM OFF! Practice giving him a lot of slack and then call him as you reel him in.
I can just picture him "weee I'm free, I can hide, she cant see me"! Plus tehre are more noises and evening animals that come out at night to distract and tempt him! By any chance is he between the age of 1 year and two years?

That is the dog teenager stage, she is testing you. With Rory it was like clockwork, when she turned 1, she started regressing and we had to remind her of her commands......yup plain ole defiance is what that is, haha!

Yep.  A leash is the answer.  If your pup wants more freedom on these outings, get a long rope or piece of clothesline, a long flexi leash, whatever works as long as the dog is firmly attached to one end and you've got hold of the other. [:D]

My dog is the same way at night, but it's because he is possum hunting! If he gets a glance at any vermin, I can get him to come to me, but only to run off trying to show me his new "find". When I don't have the time to let him play possum hunter I ;put him on the chain in the backyard, and return shortly after to bring him back in.
