Chasing car in dog park okay?

Chasing car in dog park okay?

Whenever we bring our gsd pup to a dog park, he spends half the time chasing cars along the fence.  When we walk on a leash, I can usually get him under control by putting him in a sit stay and holding him on a very short leash.

My question is, should I correct him for chasing cars when he's in the dog park?  Or will he eventually get bored with it and realize that he'll never get anywhere?  I'm just afraid that he might be thinking, oh look, I chased it, and now it's gone, pat on the back for myself.

His usual day at the park: Play with dogs, chase car, play with dogs, "herd" the pom, chase cars....

    Any thoughts appreciated.

I'd probably correct him, but I guess it's okay as long as you can keep him under control when you've got him on a leash.

If it was me I would put a stop to it, IMO he's not going to get bored with it, he see's it as I chased it and now it's gone.

I wouldn't allow it. Something like this could become an obsession so I don't think he'll lose interest. >o.o<

I agree... and then it might go beyond the dog park to other areas of his life.

Yup, I'd put a stop to it too.  Seeing as the only thing stopping him from taking it further is the fence, you could be in trouble if he ever got loose somewhere else.

I would correct it asap. One of mine likes to chase, it is so annoying to me, and can be so dangerous, even with him on his leash. I have been thinking of using a spray bottle of water to squirt him when he does it...

How do I stop him though?  I never know WHEN he's gonna start chasing.  And keeping him on a leash the whole time would defeat the purpose of going to a dog park.

I wish I can say that I can just tell him to come.  But he's deaf to commands when he sees that red hot sports car on the other side of the fence.  He might glance at me if i call his name, but that's as much attention as he'll spare.  And they don't allow food in the dog park, 'cause you'll have a swarm of dogs jumping of you if they catch sight of that tastey little treat in your hand.
