    "Happy" Pee

My dog happy pees EVERY time we take her to visit friends/family, or if we have guests...

She is a 1 1/2 yr old Boston Terrier, Carli, who has lived with us for a year now. Before that, she belonged to my sister who couldn't get the house training down. (My thought was that my sister worked alot of hours, and Carli was the 2nd dog in the house, and they could not spend the time with her that she needed as a puppy to house train her...) I work part-time, and there is almost always someone home in my house to be with her to take her out, etc...

Well, we kicked the house training problem in a record 2 weeks, and have not had any issues since.

However... now as a part of the "family" we enjoy taking her on visits, and including her in our day-to-day lives... but we just cannot kick this happy pee thing, and it's driving everyone crazy... "Oh no, here comes the pee-puppy/sprinkler/carpet-ruiner".

We've tried taking her to pee before we go inside, keeping her on a leash and staying in the entryway until she can gather her composure before greeting people. We've tried having people greeting her in a calm voice, vs. *high pitched voice* "HI GIRL!!!" Which seems to work for a while, but eventually before the end of the visit, I am on all fours scrubbing the floor. [:(]

Our vet says this is something she "will eventually grow out of". I've posted on a few other sites, emailed vets, etc... and I think we might try some obedience type classes next, but I just wanted to know if anyone has had this problem, and what it took to correct the problem.

I love my furry "daughter" dearly and just really wish everyone else could too... without the pee stains.

When I was younger our family had a cocker spaniel that did that "happy pee" She did grow out of it after about 8 months and we heard from several sources that some small breeds do so. I just read about this in another post, I'll try and find it also. Maybe try not getting so excited when you first come home and tell your guests to not get so excited upon a new visit. When you get home taker her outside, let her pee and then give her luv-ins, that might help get the idea through her head but I do hear they grow out of it! By the way.......your pup adorable!

Oh I remember when Harley used to do this.  I can't really remember how long it was before he stopped, but he would run in circles like crazy when someone would show up and manage to be a sprinkler as well.  Now he gets excited to see people but there is no pee!

I would ask about a UTI for one thing if you think it could be medical but it is very possible it is something she will have to outgrow.  There is no harm in asking though.

I wonder if confining her more until she can calm down would help.  It seems like that is what we might have had to do.

Oh and welcome!  We love pics-that is the price of admission!
