    Slobbering

If anyone can help please. Our Gunner is 10 months old and has been in a crate since day one. But for the last 2 months or so when we come home, he's soaked in slobber. We know it's slobber because we left him one day without water to make sure he wasn't just dumping his water. We leave him 2 kong toys and a buda bone to chew, but this doesn't seem to stop it. Does anyone think he's just bored or is he having separation anxiety.  If it's separation anxiety, we really do not want to put him on drugs, I've heard bad stories. He's typically a hyper dog, but we can't leave him wet all day all the time. Any suggestions?

Where is he wet?  What kind of dog is he?

He's not going in the crate is he?

My doberman is a flank sucker ... he will curl up in a ball and suck on his side.  It leaves a HUGE wet slobber spot and it's quite gross.  (It's quite common in the breed and it's an obsessive compulsive disorder.)  Is it everywhere or just one part of him?

How much training and exercise are you giving your dog?

I think he's either anxious or bored.  Mic's question is a good one.
Most dogs need more exercise and mental stimulation than we humans assume they do.
Also, there are some natural herbals, like Valerian, that are used with some success to calm anxiety - I much prefer to address it with exercise or activity first, before considering that though.
