    Puppy doesnt bark?

We have a puppy...A Bichone, who we have had for two weeks.
    He hasnt barked yet!
He opens his mouth to bark and youd think he was barking but nothing comes out.
I am concerned. Is this normal?

Count your blessings.  He will eventually find his voice.

It's quite normal for puppies not to bark.  Sioux didn't find her voice until she was five months old!
Sequoyah - ten weeks old, and she was already barking at strange stuff.
Like Mic says, count your blessings.

On a different note - great book for small dog owners:
"Little Dogs - Training Your Pint-Sized Companion" by Deborah Wood.

Personally I wouldn't worry about it.  When he finally discovers his voice you will probably wish he didn't use it quite as much.  [sm=lol.gif]

Patt, that's exactly what I was thinking.  We had a cocker/poodle/something mix that didn't bark once until she was around 8 months old.  Then, she didn't shut up for 13 years.

    LOL

love this post- our girls were quiet for about 6 hours, now they bark at us if we even leave them to go to the loo, "oi, where are you going?! come back!"

I too, would love to have that problem.  My guy barks almost instinctively at every little change in his surroundings, or people outside, or squirrels, or the wind, or the cat, or the roommate....ignoring doesn't work because then he barks at me to come see what he was barking about in the first place.

I have a Bichon and she doesn't bark much either.  If you really want to hear his "voice", trying holding up a really yummy treat... and just keeping holding it out there.

They're so dang cute when they let out that first *big dog* bark. [:D] They just look at you like "Whoa! Mom! Did that big noise come out of me"??

LOL when Crusher found his big boy bark I called my friend to tell her right away!  I was so proud of him.  Ha but you should have seen me the first time he lifted his leg to pee!! [:D]
