    Not Eating

I have a three and a half year old golden retriever.  I went out of town Easter weekend and boarded him for three nights.  He hasn' been around other dogs a whole lot and I left him at a place where he basically played with other dogs all day.  Since I got him (8 days ago) he is not eating his dog food.  He'll eat treats and other stuff, but not his dog food.  Also, he has been wimpering a lot and acting strange.  I was wondering if anyone knew what could be wrong with him.

Is he voiding ok with no complications?
Is he vomiting? Does he have the runs?
Is it a possiblity he ate the kennel food and not his own normal diet and is retaliating cause he likes the other food?
If he is whining and acting strange to you, maybe you should give your vet a call to have him seen.

Yes, he ate the food at the place I left him instead of his regular food.  He hasn't pooped because he hasn't eaten.  It has been 8 days and he hasn't eaten but a handfull of food.  I thought that maybe he is whining and wimpering because he misses playing with the other dogs, but I don't know what that would have to do with him eating.  Like I said he is eating treats and stuff, but that is all.

Even with treats he should be having a movement.
My concern would be he is constipated or something internal like a blockage. However, they usually show signs of bloating if they have a blockage of some sorts.
You say he is drinking ok?
Do you know what his temperature is like?
    • Puppy
Yeah, he has been drinking.  Maybe not as much as normal, but he is still drinking a good bit.  I'm not sure about his temperature, but it appears to be normal.

Eight days is a long time not to eat. I am not sure what is going on with him. He is either not wanting the food you are feeding him or there is something else going on with this guy. I would take him to his regular vet asap to find out what is going on. It is not normal for a dog not to eat his kibble that he once relished and whimpering could be a sign of pain.
The only way to take his temp is to take it rectally. If it is over the normal temp of 100. to 102. then he has a temp.

OMG - Eight days and you haven't been to the vet???? Whining and whimpering is a sign of PAIN!!!!!  Go to the vet - being off food for more than a day or two is NOT normal.

OMG!! Absolutely Anne.  Why on earth hasn't this boy been to the vet?   Sheba went off her food last week and I watched her exactly one day before I called the vet.  Had she been whimpering at all she would have gone in immediately.  Dogs are stoic.  They don't show pain, so for him to be whimpering, he's really hurting.
