    does anyone have any recommendations to deter my 5 month old from digging? he is digging holes in the yard and then re-digging  where we have put top soil and seed. He is not burying anything, just digging for the sake of digging it seems! Any behavior mod you can think of? Any thing I can put on/in the dirt - commercial or home made that will keep him out of it? I need something non-toxic obviously for him and for my two kids. Thanks for your help.

    I put my dogs poop in the holes and then recover them back up, and leave one hole for him to dig in all the time and he will then realize that is his hole.  worked for my 5 month old lab.  He will go over and sniff the holes that i have placed a "present in" and he walks away.  Hope this helps.

    I would suggest that if you WANT your dog to dig only in a specific place you TEACH him that that's his place to dig.  Encourage him to dig there, bury treats for him to find in the hole, etc.

    We've used the filling in with dog poop trick too and it does work.  However, they tend to move to another area eventually, so we probably have poop buried in the majority of the yard.  Maybe that's why my Camellias did so well this year [:D].
